Position Description | The Department of Communication at the College of Charleston invites applications for a full-time, three-year, visiting assistant professor position to begin August 2024. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in communication or a related field by August 2024 and demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching. We are interested in candidates who specialize in speaking, writing, and argumentation. Possible teaching responsibilities include an introductory course in public speaking, an early-major speaking and writing course focusing on civic discourse, and a mid-major course in applied writing. Applications are due by May 15, 2024. All applicants must submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, and the contact information for three colleagues capable of providing a recommendation to our application system. In their application letter, applicants should highlight their teaching philosophy and provide evidence of their instructional effectiveness. Finalists may be asked to submit additional materials. The College of Charleston, located in Charleston, SC, is a public liberal arts and sciences institution of 11,000 students with a commitment to excellence in teaching and research. The Department of Communication is a signature program at the College and is home to over 800 majors, minors, and graduate students. The department's 22 full-time faculty members train students in writing, speaking, and media while teaching them to be more conscientious and ethical creators and consumers of communication messages. Faculty members bring their wide range of expertise into classes that closely align with their scholarly interests. Communication curriculum emphasizes experiential learning, including partnerships across the vibrant coastal city of Charleston. Students and faculty also partner with the department's renowned National Advisory Council of communication and media professionals.
