College Access Plan is Hiring a Program Coordinator - High School Program Near Pasadena, CA

About College Access Plan

College Access Plan (CAP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that collaborates with schools in Pasadena and Hacienda La Puente Unified school districts and community partners to make fully equitable college information accessible to all students. We support students from fifth grade through college graduation. Our programs are free, and we use no limiting criteria like grades, test scores, and legal status. We have developed an adaptable model that meets all students where they are and when they’re ready.

Summary of Position

College Access Plan (CAP) seeks to hire one High School Program Coordinator to begin work on August 1, 2024. Under the direct supervision of the High School Program Manager, this person is responsible for CAP’s after-school drop-in services at two Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) school sites and additional daytime advising as determined by contracts with HLPUSD. The Program Coordinator delivers on-site services for students, including college advising, assistance with college and financial aid applications, and collection and maintenance of student data and records. In addition, the Program Coordinator assists with outreach and recruitment, develops and reviews curriculum, plans workshops, and collaborates with other CAP teams, community partners, counselors, and educators.

The Program Coordinator is energetic and creative, a team player who is engaging and eager to collaborate with CAP, school districts, and partner organizations to support the college aspirations of first-generation college-going and low-income students. With an eye towards equitable access to postsecondary education for all, the Program Coordinator’s primary focus is to prepare and support underserved students for success in higher education by delivering holistic and culturally responsive curriculum and developing trusting relationships.

Responsibilities

Direct Service

  • Maintain and manage on-campus after-school and day-time programs at school sites in the Pasadena Unified School District;
  • Advise high school students (individually and in group settings) on college lists, applications, and essays, financial aid, career pathways, and more;
  • Assist students with all college-related deadlines, submissions, and questions;
  • Apply culturally responsive pedagogical approaches that foster student involvement.

Project Management

  • Collaborate with CAP team to develop, review, and modify curriculum, materials, and presentations in support of student success;
  • Consistently and accurately collect and maintain student records and data via Salesforce;
  • Serve as on-site liaison for site administrators and staff, and for assigned volunteers;
  • Treat personal student information with sensitivity and maintain FERPA standards for privacy for all student records.

Recruitment and Outreach

  • Schedule and deliver classroom and community presentations about CAP programs and critical college readiness checklist items;
  • Help maintain positive working relationships with CAP's partner and peer programs;
  • Cultivate robust relationships across school sites with district principals, counselors, and teachers;
  • Conduct personalized outreach and respond to student questions and requests via email, text, and phone;
  • Coordinate outreach and recruitment efforts for assigned programs, including designing informational flyers, tabling at school and community events, and promoting student success on CAP website and social media platforms;
  • Represent CAP at school events, community events, and local college fairs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree minimum
  • Dynamic, interactive professional with a strong desire to work directly with high school students in both one-on-one and large classroom settings
  • Basic knowledge of high school requirements, postsecondary education options, application procedures, and admission requirements
  • Strong ability to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, volunteers, school staff, and faculty
  • Experience with basic office software, MAC OS, and common social media platforms
  • Well-developed organizational skills with a strong orientation to detail
  • Creative and critical thinker with desire to learn
  • Availability to work 10am-6pm with occasional evening and weekend commitments
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to occasionally travel to College Access Plan’s central offices in Pasadena, CA

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with/in programs tailored to reach and support low-income students and young men of color (Strongly preferred)
  • Experience advising high school and college students in a college access or success setting
  • Experience with project management
  • Experience with Salesforce
  • Familiarity with the Pasadena community
  • Fluent in a language other than English is a plus

Pay: $46,000.00 - $49,000.00 per year
