Collaborative for Educational Services is Hiring an Early Learning Specialist Near Northampton, MA

Department: Early ChildhoodTitle: ParentChild Early Learning SpecialistFLSA Status: non-exemptReports to: ParentChild CoordinatorHourly rate: $18.00 per hour Purpose: The ParentChild (PC ) Early Learning Specialist is responsible for providing early literacy home visiting services to families with young children in a manner that maintains the program’s fidelity. Essential FunctionsVisit assigned families twice each week, for thirty minutes each visit, in person when possible and virtually as required Build positive working relationships with families Connect families with local resources Bring a new book or toy during the introductory visit each week which is left with the family to useModel for the parent appropriate ways to verbally interact with the child, using a toy or bookReview the book or toy with the parent during the second visit of the weekComplete reports in a timely fashion including the Home Session Record and anecdotal report for each visit which is given to the Coordinator at the weekly meeting and entered online on a visit record form templateUpload records to DAISY (PC portal) as needed.Help the parents complete the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) or ASQ Social/Emotional for each child at the beginning and end of the year; interpret the results and suggest appropriate activities for the child Other Duties and ResponsibilitiesAttend the initial 12-16 hour training program before starting home visitsAttend the weekly two hour PC staff meeting facilitated by the Coordinator; share visit experiences, as appropriateKeep a virtual record of Home Session Records in a shared Google Drive, organized by familyLearn techniques for using toys/books to increase verbal interaction between parent and childAttend other trainings, as requestedOther tasks as assigned by the Coordinator Minimum QualificationsKnowledge of early childhood developmentExperience working with young children and their families, preferably low incomeStrong verbal and written communication and organizational skillsNonjudgmental, using a strengths-based approach with familiesFamiliarity with the community, particularly low-income communities Bilingual/bicultural skills helpfulReliable car and valid driver’s licenseAble to pass a CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) screening Physical DemandsRequires driving, carrying supplies, and sometimes sitting on the floor with children and parents Work ConditionsFlexible schedule with night availabilityVisits will be made to a variety of homes with a wide range of families and children Dates of Service:34 weeks school yearThe hours vary according to the different CFCE programming periods over the year in alignment with school district calendars. There is the potential of additional hours depending on funding. (No programming during school vacation weeks and holidays) Hours: 14-18 hours per week depending on the availabilities and schedules of families
