Colchester Middle School is Hiring an Anticipated Special Education Teacher Near Colchester, VT

POSITION TITLE: Special Education TeacherGENERAL DESCRIPTION: The special educator is responsible for ensuring that the individual educational plans are provided to eligible students and to other students as appropriate. The special education teacher is both an instructional and consulting teacher who provides support service to students and teachers as academic/social needs arise.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year are in accordance with the current Master Contract and salary schedule. CLASSIFICATION:Fair Labor Standards Act ExemptREPORTS TO: Building Principals School Operations Director of Special Education - Special Education ProgramsEVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions in the current Master Agreement between the Colchester Education Association and the School Board. Evaluation will be completed according to the guidelines defined in the district's Differentiated Evaluation Process.SUPERVISES: Instructional Assistants/Tutors as assignedQUALIFICATIONS:1.Current VT license with an endorsement in special education; current knowledge of Special Education and related laws.2.Masters degree in special education; advanced coursework highly desirable.3.Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem solving skills.4.Prior successful teaching experience as well as skills in collaboration and teamwork.5.Commitment to the district mission and Action Plan. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:1.Instruct students according to their developmental needs and in collaboration with other school staff members.2.Develop and implement IEP's and/or related service plans for assigned students.3.Maintain necessary records and paperwork regarding individual students, programs and Medicaid requirements.4.Initiate, encourage, and participate in individual conferences with students, their teachers, parents, and outside agencies.5.Participate as a member of school based Educations Support Team and Evaluation planning and Individual Education Program Team.6.Conduct annual/initial evaluation and other comprehensive assessments as required. Communicate evaluation results to parents and staff.7.Collaborate with other staff members, administrators, and/or human resource groups in promoting an inclusionary service delivery model.8.Provide leadership and staff development to instructional assistants/tutors and other staff members as appropriate.9.Demonstrate current best practices in teaching and learning.10.Comply with all state and federal special education regulations under IDEA.11.Participate in all meetings called by the building principal and Director of Special Education.12.Assume other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education Coordinator or building administrators.
