Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Design and develop innovative precision mechanisms, optics modules, and subsystems for industrial machines/systems and integrated assembly solutions with an emphasis on laser beam alignment and optics configuration
• Balance imaginative solutions with practical considerations such as cost and time targets
• Use of a wide variety of your skills designing for high-stiffness sub-micron motion
• Perform precision stage and actuation/adjustment design on integrated multi-axis linear/rotary motion and part holding
• Perform 3D modeling and stress analysis using Autodesk Inventor CAD/FEA
• Organize and output bills of materials utilizing an Engineering Change Order (ECO) approval process in Agile PLM software
• Collaborate with colleagues to complete new products from inception to install, including marketing/product managers, application engineering teams, internal Coherent laser source providers/manufacturers and manufacturing teams
• Control project cost and timing utilizing Wrike project management software
• Periodically interact with customers and vendors to discuss and establish requirements

Education & Experience

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering and/or Optical Engineering
• 5 years of combined experience and advanced technical studies
• Experience in high-precision design including kinematic constraints, high stiffness, low induced stresses, thermal stability, FEA, GD&T
• Previous laser systems and opto-mechanical design experience, or relevant area of photonics in an industrial R&D environment desired
• Previous experience in precision-design for high-accuracy positioning systems, such as Semi and/or SMT processing and assembly systems desired
• Vibration isolation, dynamics, kinematics, laser beam delivery, mechanisms, motion analysis and laser applications experience desired.

Skills

• Expertise with AutoDesk Inventor (preferred) or SolidWorks and Zemax (or equivalent)
• Strong background in the design of mechanisms
• Advanced understanding of optical subsystems
• Proven ability to handle, work with, and assemble delicate components with high cleanliness requirements
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to assist with hands-on prototype design/assembly and on-the-floor support of transfers to manufacturing/assembly
• Knowledge of applicable laser safety standards
• Comfortable with high-power/energy lasers (good understanding of physics and hands-on laser characterization in an optics lab)

Working Conditions

• The general work environment is typical of any industrial semiconductor plant operation
• Support a 24/7 manufacturing site
• Will be exposed to areas where hand tools and power tools are being operated
• Will be exposed to areas where hazardous chemicals or gases are stored

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to bend, reach, twist, turn and climb normally associated with construction work
• Ability to lift, pull, and/or carry a minimum of 50 pounds on a periodic basis throughout the shift
• Ability to perform activities that include climbing vertical ladders, bending at waist, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and crawling
• Ability to work in a cleanroom environment per semi-conductor protocol/requirements
