The Cohen Defense Group is the largest private criminal defense firm in the foothills. In addition to a thriving regional private practice, we currently contract with Placer County to offer first-level conflict defender services for indigent clients, and are in negotiations to provide similar services in neighboring Nevada County as well. We strive to provide the highest level of indigent defense, and the work we do for our private clients supports that goal. Our team is made up of some of the best criminal defense lawyers in the state, including lawyers who are certified specialists in criminal law, lawyers repeatedly recognized as Northern California Super Lawyers, and lawyers recognized by Sacramento Magazine as the best in the region. Our private practice covers the eastern portion of the Central Valley, including Sacramento, Yolo, Yuba, and Sutter Counties, the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in El Dorado, Placer, and Nevada Counties, and the Eastern Sierra communities in the Lake Tahoe area. Our attorneys live everywhere from Nevada City to Davis and have all office locations available to them.

In 2024, we intend on expanding our offices in Roseville as well as opening offices in Nevada City and Truckee. This expansion, the complexities of managing two county contracts in four locations, and the impending retirement of our long-serving office manager gives rise to the creation of this COO position.

Duties
As the Bookkeeper/Office Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our organization and ensuring its smooth functioning. Your duties will include:

- Human Resources
- Supervision of the Administrative staff
- Insurance Compliance
- Payroll and 401k administration
- Bookkeeping, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable
- Implementing process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and productivity including evaluating and selecting law practice management software, CRMs, VOIP phone systems, and client communication tools
- Forecasting and planning for future operational needs
- Supervising and evaluating the performance of internal staff as well as our outsourced IT, insurance, accounting, and other venders.

Experience
To be successful in this role, you should have the following qualifications and experience:
- Proficiency with QuickBooks
- Exceptional leadership abilities with the ability to inspire and motivate teams
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex budgets and financial resources
- Experience in accounting, human resources, communications, recruiting, and strategic planning
- Proficiency in process improvement methodologies and tools
- Proven track record in supervising and evaluating staff performance
