This is a part time position for approximately 6-8 hours a day: 6:30am – 9:45am and then again 1:15pm – 4:45pm.
Monitors must have the ability to:
· 1-1 for one way transport in morning and afternoon
· Carry-out emergency evacuations
· Lift 50 pounds consistently; strength and stamina sufficient to provide required assistance to students with disabilities
· Follow verbal instructions and communicate effectively
· Operate safety equipment and adaptive equipment, with training
· Work well with children with disabilities
· Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy
· Sit and stand for extended periods of time
· Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment including; kneeling, bending at waist, reaching overhead and horizontally and when necessary, lifting heavy objects
Duties:
· Supervise and assist students
· Meet bus at designated locations
· Maintain order on a school bus transporting special education students who attend specialized programing
· Support behavior management programs/plans, with training
· Assist with lifting and moving designated students as necessary, with training
· Learn to adapt to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs
· Enforce district policy and procedures in maintaining confidentiality
· Communicate with teachers and parents on daily basis regarding student behavior while on bus
· Supervise use of seat belts, harness, or car seats by students
· Follow emergency procedures and help driver when necessary
· Help bus driver clean bus
· Participate in staff development programs as directed
· Perform related duties as assigned
