Cogdell Memorial Hospital is Hiring an Orthopedic Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Near Snyder, TX

Description

This position has the overall responsibility to be knowledgeable of various surgical procedures and assist the surgeon with the needed instruments and supplies to perform the surgical procedure. This position also ensures that inventory/supply counts are accurate and adequate for upcoming cases. Ordering of supplies/equipment through computer system or purchase requisitions. Rotates and checks expiration dates. Research information on supplies and equipment. Orders special request supplies and equipment. Reviews, inputs patient charges into the computer, and release of charges. Decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of instruments. Maintains accurate equipment and sterilization records. 

Note: This is a PRN position - one day per week (Wednesdays). There is potential for additional hours.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

• Valid certification as a Certified Surgical Technician (required)

• Minimum of two years of orthopedic scrub tech experience (required)

• BLS (required) 

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Set-up and scrub for any type of surgical procedure, but primarily ortho

• Maintain a good working relationship with all operating physicians

• Knowledgeable of all materials and equipment used in surgery

• Assists with the transferring of patients to and from the operating room

• Maintain a sterile field during surgery; participate in ensuring accurate sponge, needle and instrument counts. 

• Supplies and instruments pulled for cases by reviewing physician preference card

• Assists in cleaning the operating room

• Maintains proper supplies and appropriate medical equipment 

• Inputs patient charges into the computer in a timely and accurate manner

• Ordering and restocking of supplies and instruments

• Properly cleans and decontaminates equipment and supplies

• Maintains accurate equipment

• Duties may vary depending on the cases for which the staff member is involved.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

• Proficiency with computer skills including Microsoft Office applications and electronic health records systems

• Willingness to adapt to change and support new technologies as well as policies and procedures in a positive manner

• Knowledge of general operating room equipment; knowledge of medical terminology 

• Ability to multitask effectively, dealing with phone calls, patients, staff and others pleasantly

• Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

• Strong reasoning/clinical decision making skills

• Excellent time management, collaboration, prioritization and problem-solving skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

• Physically demanding, high-stress environment

• Pushing and pulling heavy objects

• Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions. 

• Full range of body motion 

• Position requires light to moderate work with 50 pounds maximum weight to lift and carry

• Position requires reaching, bending, stooping, and handling objects with hands and/or fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeing

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
