Job Description


School Psychologist (Special Education)


Responsible to:
Director of Special Education


Qualifications:

  • Specialist or Doctorial Degree in School Psychology
  • Certification in school psychology in accordance with state law and the State Board

Rules and Regulations

  • Sufficient experience to perform duties
  • NASP certification preferred


Essential Responsibilities:

  • To enable student s to derive the fullest possible educational experience for school by

promoting their sense of self and addressing any behavioral, psychological or

mental health problems

  • Helps identify within the school all exceptional students
  • Help to maintain a system on all referred students; pre-referral and referral meetings

and maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality in all matters pertaining to

students, parents, staff, and programs

  • Administers psychological tests and interprets assessment results for the purpose of

diagnosis and placement, assesses, designs, and modifies instruction for student

with a wide range of disabilities in the special education and general education

setting

  • Assists in the development of Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavior

Intervention Plans; assists with the implementations of positive behavior support

systems

  • Provides individual and group counseling and other mental health services as

appropriate

  • Works collaboratively with others in a school-based/academic setting
  • Consults on special educational needs of exceptional children
  • Attends multidisciplinary team meetings for placement of individual students
  • Provides consultation to teachers, parents, and school staff as needed
  • Prepares and submits psycho educational reports within the legal time lines
  • Acts as a liaison with community agencies that provide services to children
  • Attends staff, professional, and interagency meetings
  • Assists with in-services training of school personnel and provides in-service trainings

as needed

  • Keep abreast of new developments and laws within the field of school psychology
  • Assists students, families and schools deal with crisis situations
  • May be a member of the school system emergency crisis team
  • Assists in researching and planning programs that meet the special needs of the

students

  • Assists with Child Find and necessary evaluations and placement
  • Attend regional and national conferences to maintain appropriate licensure and best

practices in school psychology

  • Other Responsibilities as determined by the Director of Schools

  • Follows Federal and State Laws and adopted policies and procedures in accordance

with School Board priorities

  • Conducts oneself in the best interest of students, in accordance with the highest

standards of public education and in support of the District's Vision/Mission

  • Other responsibilities and/or duties may be required and assigned
