Senior Accountant

Description

CURE Auto Insurance is looking for a Senior Accountant to support the monthly/quarterly/annual financial close and financial reporting processes for a STAT basis insurance company and a GAAP basis management company. The Senior Accountant will focus primarily on financial reporting but will be expected to assist in operational/budgeting and ad hoc accounting projects as needed. This role will report directly to the Assistant Controller.

Responsibilities

• Assist in monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close for insurance entity (STAT basis) and management company (GAAP basis)
• Prepare account reconciliations and process journal entries.
• Prepare variance analysis to explain fluctuations in key accounts.
• Assist in preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements and disclosures.
• Interact with external auditors to provide explanations/support for financial statement audits.
• Participate in the development, implementation and ongoing maintenance of policies and procedures and internal controls.
• Support Controller in preparation of materials for quarterly Board reporting (slide deck, industry highlights, etc.)

Skills/Experience

• Required :
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Minimum 3 years of experience (either public accounting or in industry)
  • Experience in both GAAP and STAT reporting for insurance companies
  • Must be very proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Must possess strong financial accounting/general ledger skills and understanding.
• Preferred :
  • Experience in Property & Casualty insurance with emphasis on private passenger auto
  • Experience working with general ledger software.
  • Experience with STAT Annual Statement software (Gain Compliance, Wings, FIS, etc.)
