Coconino Community College is Hiring an Assistant Director of Financial Aid and Veteran Services Near Flagstaff, AZ

Assists in the management of the Office of Student Financial Aid & Veterans' Service and related programs and functions within the District. Complies with various college; federal and state regulations. This is a full-time, 12 month benefit eligible position.

Salary & Benefits

  • Full Salary Range: $61,173 - $90,535/annual - depending on education and experience
  • Anticipated Hiring Range: $61,173 - $75,854/annual - depending on education and experience
  • Cafeteria Plan: In addition to the base compensation, benefits-eligible employees receive an extra $5,640 per year to put toward benefit costs or to be used as additional take-home pay
  • Paid Holidays: 21 (including a full week off between Christmas and New Year’s Day and over Spring Break)

  • Provides leadership and assists in the management of the Financial Aid Office to include overseeing the front counter operation, ensuring compliance, high quality customer service, and coordination with other areas of the College.
  • Serves as the designee in the Director's absence by attending meetings and other duties as required.
  • Interprets and complies with federal and state regulations. Includes monitoring and enforcing federal and state regulations to ensure that the College is in compliance and making recommendations to the Director for revision to procedures when the department or College is not in compliance.
  • Supervises and trains Financial Aid Generalist, Specialists, Advisor and student workers. Oversees the Front Counter operations including; but not limited to; training temporary employees; student workers and interns. This includes making hiring and termination recommendations. Conducting performance evaluations, and carrying out disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Serves as main contact for IT and Institutional Research regarding Banner system and requests for reports. Participates in annual Banner year roll process with director. 
  • Advises students regarding financial aid, and determines specific course of action or makes recommendations or referrals to outside agencies if required. Uses professional judgement in working with students who may have unique circumstances
  • Serves as a liaison between the Financial Aid office and internal and external departments, groups, agencies and individuals to maintain partnerships or share information.
  • Provides sensitive, confidential and/or technical information to students and parents regarding financial aid programs and procedures and federal regulations. Includes assisting students and parents in completing and processing the FAFSA applications and providing information regarding on-campus employment opportunities and cost of education so that they can successfully receive financial aid, This is done on a daily basis when meeting with students/parents. Duties also involve interpreting documentation provided by students such as federal income information, legal documents, etc.
  • Reviews, evaluates, processes and approves exceptions to procedures such as petitions and appeals for independency, financial aid special conditions and satisfactory academic performance.
  • Assists in developing and implementing policies and procedures for the department and related programs and functions. This includes developing, monitoring and approving budgetary expenditures, and allocations of human and fiscal resources.
  • Assists in establishing goals and objectives for the department and related programs and functions. Represents the function or department on various operational and procedural committees as needed.
  • Develops and presents workshops and orientations related to Financial Aid issues for special needs groups, eligible participants, faculty, staff and students as individuals or in groups.
  • Responsible for calculation Return to Title IV for withdrawn students
  • Oversees the Federal Work Study and Student wage program
  • Creates financial aid forms and letters for the office
  • Assists the Director with oversight of the Veterans Center
  • Measures the performances of the Financial Aid office and takes corrective action when necessary. This includes conducting and analyzing surveys, focus surveys and student forums when necessary.
  • Travel to regional and national conferences is required in order to keep up with compliance and upgrades. Typically travel will be necessary 2 to 4 times per year.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of governmental rules, regulations, guidelines, and procedures related to financial aid. Knowledge of automated processing systems. Ability to communicate effectively in a variety of settings. Skill in organization.

Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Education, Business, Student Affairs or related field and 4 years directly related experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job and/or as approved by the Human Resources department.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree or equivalent with 2 years directly related experience
