CobbFendley is seeking a Survey Technician in our Central Texas Region. Office locations include Austin, San Marcos, San Antonio, and Corpus Christi, Texas.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate’s most important qualifications include the following.

  • Experience/proficiency with CAD work, including AutoCAD and Microstation, Survey Calculations, Various Field Work Duties Involving Survey Related Activities, LiDAR data reduction/calculations, Point Cloud registration/production, GIS tools & procedure implementation.
  • Computer drafting skills should include using line styles, cell properties, project reference files, global and local coordinates extracting profile data using TIN or DTM files and using creative scaling techniques
  • Some experience interpreting utility records, engineering plan and profiles and preparing base drawings from survey notes and be open to learning new ways to input 2D and 3D utility data into exhibits.
  • Creating plan and profile drawings for utility facilities such as electric, gas, telecommunications systems, sewer or water.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Process field crew data.
  • Prepare Topographic, Boundary, and Easement Surveys with limited input from RPLS.
  • Perform calculations for boundary analysis with limited input from RPLS.
  • Coordinate with RPLS for final boundary decisions.
  • Prepare Metes and Bounds descriptions with limited input from RPLS.
  • Perform deed research and prepare Working Sketches.
  • Provide Project Coordination with field crews.
  • Thorough understanding of civil engineering and telecommunications symbols and terminology with respect to preparation of plan & profile drawings for utility systems located within public rights-of-ways. A functional knowledge of PC applications is required. AutoCAD computer aided drafting knowledge is required.
  • Work with cad personnel in the design and preparation of detailed computer aided drawings for construction of private underground utility (telephone and electrical conduit) systems.
  • Meet project completion dates and budgets set by Project Manager and Client.
  • Work with rough sketches, drawings, specifications and other engineering/survey/utility data received from client or Project Manager for use in the development of final survey drawings.
  • Must be able to understand and work directly with survey notes and record utility drawing.
  • Must be able to plot plan view drawings or plan & profile drawings to include cross-sections, spot elevations, buildings, walls, fences, roadways, rights-of-way, underground utilities, tunnels, overhead power lines and other structures noted in the survey notes or on the record utility drawings.
  • Could include collecting field data required for completion of survey drawings when necessary.
  • Work in a collaborative team environment and deliver accurate work product that is error free. 
  • Adhere to CobbFendley’s safety standards to uphold a safe and efficient environment.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and fulfill responsibilities with integrity.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time. 
  • May perform fieldwork on an as needed basis and complete physical tasks associated with the role.
  • Mobility within the office including movement between floors and workstations. 
  • Repeated motions (e.g., typing, reaching, bending, lifting, and carrying). 
  • Communication with other employees and clients.
  • Physical mobility in and around construction sites, traffic work zones, and other field assignments
  • Alert and responsive while working in lane closure zones adjacent to high volume average daily traffic.
  • Ability to carry equipment and supplies in remote, rural, or urban surroundings.
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds and walk long distances.
  • Walking and climbing on uneven surfaces
  • Driving for extended periods of time
  • Repeated motions (e.g., reaching, bending, stooping, carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling, and handling)
  • Sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time
  • Mobility within the office including movement between floors and workstations.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

  • Most work is performed in a professional office environment with some fieldwork as needed. Some trips to client offices and job sites for observations will be required. 
  • Job site observations factors could include: walking and climbing on uneven surfaces, exposure to outdoor environments and extreme weather (heat and freezing temperatures), noise exposure, driving for extended periods of time, exposure to allergens (e.g., pollen, dust, cedar, sumac, poison ivy), exposure to construction and traffic work zones, possible hand and power tool use, and extended periods of Personal Protective Equipment use. 
  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Extended use of electronic devices (e.g., computers, printers, copiers, scanners, plotters, and telephones).
  • Ability to withstand extreme weather conditions (i.e. hot and freezing temperatures)
  • Use of electric power tools, cutting tools and other equipment
  • Driving large pick-up trucks with attached trailers (if applicable)
  • Potential watercraft use
  • Noise exposure
  • Exposure to allergens including but not limited to poison ivy, sumac, dust, pollen, cedar, etc.
  • Entering confined spaces
  • Exposure to construction and traffic work zones
  • Extended periods of Personal Protective Equipment use.

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM CST.
