CobbFendley is seeking a Survey Party Chief in our Olympia (Lacey), Washington office. 
QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate’s most important qualifications include the following.

  • Senior level of experience in Survey with 3 years of experience (boundary experience preferred) with a minimum of 2 years of experience as a Survey Party Chief leading a survey crew.
  • Ability to interpret WSDOT and municipal plans required.
  • Ability to interpret utility company records and identify utilities from field observations required.
  • Understanding of utility locating equipment and utility construction methods a plus.
  • Excellent driving record and a valid driver’s license.
  • Commercial Driver’s License a plus.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Good verbal and written communications skills.
  • Formal survey training or education. CST Certification Level 1, 2, or 3 is a plus.
  • Ability to follow directions and work well with others.
  • Motivation to work in a dynamic environment with strict deadlines.
  • Desire to collaborate with professionals and clients to increase your industry knowledge and grow in your career.
  • Commitment to perform responsibilities consistent with industry standards to achieve department and company goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for directing, training, and supervising an operational two to three-person survey field crew.
  • Experience using GPS/GNSS equipment, robotic total station with data collector, and digital levels (Trimble preferred).
  • Work with the CobbFendley SUE team to assist with utility designations and digging of test holes/potholing.
  • Senior level of experience working in construction, surveying, and/or general labor. 
  • Senior level of experience in performing boundary and topographical surveying, as well as construction staking required.
  • Direct all phases of work of a field survey crew in determining exact location and measurements of control points, elevations, lines, and areas to secure data used for construction, mapping, boundary delineation, or other purposes.
  • Perform survey calculations by computing grades, vertical curves, horizontal curves, and deflection angles.
  • Accurately and efficiently collect field data and locate features.
  • Record data points with data collector.
  • Operate and maintain company equipment and vehicles.
  • Strong organizational skills including preparation of field notes.
  • Perform independent research and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Work with minimal supervision and deliver accurate work product.
  • Adhere to CobbFendley’s safety standards to uphold a safe and efficient environment.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and fulfill responsibilities with integrity.
  • Travel is a mandatory requirement of the role as assigned. The percentage of travel will fluctuate based on business needs and at times may account for 40% of the time worked. Travel includes to other offices or project sites throughout the US.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Physical mobility in and around construction sites, traffic work zones, and other field assignments.
  • Physical mobility including but not limited to hand-eye coordination, steadiness, upper/low body strength, control precision, stamina, multilimbed coordination, static strength, manual dexterity, oral comprehension and expression, and depth perception.
  • Alert and responsive while working in lane closure zones adjacent to high volume average daily traffic.
  • Ability to lift, carry, pull/drag, and balance equipment & supplies (up to 50 pounds) in remote, rural, or urban surroundings.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and walk long distances.
  • Walking long distances (3 miles) and climbing on uneven surfaces.
  • Climbing in and out of a vehicle multiple times a day and driving for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend ladders while maintaining three points of contact.
  • Sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Mobility within the warehouse (between floors and workstations), high-traffic areas, and walk surfaces.
  • Repeated motions (e.g., reaching, bending, stooping, carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling, kneeling/crawling, squatting, twisting, climbing, head tilting and handling).
  • Communication with other employees and clients.
  • Work up to 12 hours or more per day, when necessary.

Environmental Factors: 

  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor environments (approximately 80% of duties to be performed outdoors in the field and 20% are performed indoors in the office/warehouse). Some trips to client offices and out of town job sites for observations will be required. 
  • Job site observations factors could include: walking and climbing on uneven surfaces, exposure to outdoor environments and extreme weather (heat and freezing temperatures), noise exposure, driving for extended periods of time, exposure to allergens (e.g., pollen, dust, cedar, sumac, poison ivy), exposure to construction and traffic work zones, possible hand and power tool use, and extended periods of Personal Protective Equipment use. 
  • Driving large pick-up trucks with attached trailers (if applicable).
  • Potential watercraft use.
  • Exposure to construction and traffic work zones.
  • Extended use of electronic devices (e.g., computers, printers, copiers, scanners, plotters, and telephones).
  • Use of cutting tools and equipment (e.g., plotting equipment, rotary paper cutter).

Expected hours of work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

Pay: $32 - $42 per hour:

Starting pay will be determined at the time of offer based on the experience, education, and training of the successful candidate.
