Residuals Operator I or II
Under general supervision operates filter press and related equipment in a water treatment plan and operates a large dump truck. Incumbent works as a member of the residuals team and reports to the Residuals Superintendent.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Operates pumps and valves to regulate flow of residuals to filter press;
Adjusts controls to open and close the press;
Monitors discharge of filter cake from press;
Monitors and adjusts flow to thickeners, washing sprays, settlers, and related equipment;
Cleans thickeners, basins and tanks; works safely in confined space environments;
Collects residual process samples for laboratory analysis; checks pH, alkalinity, percent solids and adjusts chemical dosage to achieve desired goals;
Maintains and updates Preventive Maintenance System for proper work order completion, and handling of chemicals;
Operates dump truck, as well as maintains and cleans dump truck and
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and their applications.
Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
Knowledge of basic hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
Skill performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
Skill in watching gauges, dials or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
Skill in determining the causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
Skill in conducting tests and inspections of processes to evaluate the quality of performance.
Ability to safely operate a commercial dump truck.
Ability to read and interpret readings, measurements and flow rates obtained through application of diagnostics, laboratory sampling and testing equipment.
Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
Ability to read and interpret various documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and related documentation.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communications with other employees, vendors and the public.
High school diploma or GED required and one year’s experience working at a water or wastewater treatment plant; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities required for the position.
Licensing Requirements:
Requires a Georgia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a good driving record. A good driving record must be maintained to be allowed to continue employment with the Authority.
High school diploma or GED required or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities required for the position.
Licensing Requirements:
Requires Georgia Driver’s License with a good driving record. A good driving record must be maintained to continue employment with the Authority. Within six (6) months of employment, a Georgia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required.
Pay Grade 23: $40,850.72 - $59,233.55 annual Residuals Operator II Pay Grade 28: $52,372.00 - $81,176.60 annual Residuals Operator I
