School Police Officer Full Time
FULL-TIME Salary $40,000-$60,000 (Retirement and Benefits Included)
This is a 10 month (210 Day) position.
The job of School Police Officer (Act 44 Article XIII-C Section 1301-c) is a law officer employed by a school district whose responsibilities, including, working work hours that are established by the school district. The Police Officer is appointed by the Court of Common Pleas and is authorized by the court, to exercise the same powers as exercised under the authority of law or ordinance by the police of the municipality in which the school property is located and serve as such at any designated school as directed by the Superintendent and or the Chief of Police/Director of School and Public Safety.
The Coatesville Area School District is a qualifying employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
Education and Experience:
Preferred minimum of 3 years’ experience. NASRO Basic School Resource Officer Course of instruction or equivalent but not needed to apply. Officers who are appointed by the court as a School Police Officer will have to meet the Act 120 annual training requirements including firearms qualification. Must maintain minimum of 12 hours of mandatory in-service training and maintain a current CPR/AED/First Aid Certification. Additional department training requirements per SOPs.
Current Act 120 required.
Abilities:
Adhere to Pennsylvania laws relating to police powers. Adhere to Safety practices and procedures established by the School District. Adhere to job responsibilities as outlined in the job description, to include the ability to stand for long periods, walk up and down stairs, and rapidly respond to emergencies. Ability to maintain and certify on weapons use/restrain procedures and use of force. Work closely with the school principal(s), meet at least once per week. Refer students and their families to the appropriate agencies for assistance when a need is determined. Must be available for conferences with students, parents, faculty to assist with matter of law enforcement and crime prevention. Must be able to teach age appropriate Safety curriculum to students. Abide by school board policies and consult with and coordinate activities with the Chief of Police/Director of School and Public Safety. Must maintain JNET/CLEAN access.
Hours of Work: Monday—Friday 40 hour schedule running concurrent with the SPO’s assigned school. May also require overtime for school events/activities that fall outside of the school’s standard hours.
External Candidates will be required to provide mandatory clearances. This includes the Act 34 (State Criminal Clearance), Act 151 (Child Abuse) and Act 114 (FBI Clearance).
