Position: Events Associate 

Status: On-Call (variable hours) 

Hours: Days and hours dependent upon need 

Reports to: Marketing and Events Manager 

About Coastal Roots Farm:

Coastal Roots Farm (CRF) is a nonprofit Jewish community farm and education center. We cultivate healthy, connected communities by integrating sustainable agriculture, food justice, and ancient Jewish wisdom. 

We share organic produce with those who need it most and connect people to compelling Jewish ideas and traditions through farming and food. We distribute food through our on-site pay-what-you-can Farm Stand, pop up mobile farm stands, and donations to hunger relief organizations. We offer hands-on education and experiences through School and Group Visits, Farm Camp Farm Tours, Volunteer Opportunities, Jewish Agricultural Festivals, and other community events, inviting our neighbors to connect to the land, Jewish tradition, and each other. 

Coastal Roots Farm is located in Encinitas, CA on approximately 17 acres of land which we recognize as indigenous to the Kumeyaay and Luiseño peoples. Our Farm consists of vegetable production fields, education farm and gardens, a food forest, chickens, and compost operations. Coastal Roots Farm was incubated by the Leichtag Foundation in 2014 and received 501(c)(3) public charity status in 2015. 

Position Overview:

The Events Associate will support on-site private events at Coastal Roots Farm during this exciting period of growth. 

The ideal candidate is energetic and enthusiastic, enjoys social events and working with others, has strong interpersonal skills and welcoming disposition, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and has an attention to detail. This position requires someone that enjoys physical work.

During the peak summer season, the Events Associate may be eligible for extended hours to support Marketing and Events Department programs and events including Farm Film and Music Series, Farm-to-Table Dinners, and other community events. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Physical Duties:

  • Set up and take down of equipment including chairs, tables, AV system, projector, lights, water stations, waste removal, and other necessary items required by event host. 
  • Facilitating the proper organization and cleanliness of event spaces. 
  • Welcoming guests to the Farm and facilitating check-in. 
  • Inspecting inventory to ensure proper supplies. 
  • Serving food and drinks to attendees. 
  • Cleaning and returning equipment to proper storage space. 

Administrative Duties: 

  • Provide high levels of customer service. 
  • Provide relevant information to event hosts and attendees. 
  • Utilize Salesforce and Square for point of sale, data entry, and other relevant financial exchanges for taking payment at events. 

Additional Responsibilities: 

  • Upholding and enforcing any necessary safety precautions. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 
  • Lead Farm Tours and attend team meetings as appropriate. 

Qualifications and Experience:

The ideal candidate will have: 

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • High level of attention to detail. 
  • Strong organizational skills. 
  • A positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication. 
  • High energy and stamina. 
  • Excellent critical thinking abilities. 
  • Performing well under pressure. 
  • Ability to multitask. 

Compensation:

$16-$17 per hour commensurate with experience.

Typical Working Conditions:

The Events Associate will work mostly outdoors and occasionally in the office. There will be exposure to Southern California outside temperatures, chemicals used in the agricultural industry, and loud noises.

Essential Physical Tasks:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Continuous walking, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting, and pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs., cutting, and carrying. Able to walk a minimum of .5 miles on uneven narrow trails with elevation gain.
