Job Title: Radiology Manager

Job Summary:

Under the general direction of the Sr. Director of Radiology, the Radiology Manager leads and manages the operational activities for assigned sections/modalities, locations, and support areas. While the range of duties and responsibilities is broad and varied, the position’s major responsibilities are managing all day-to-day operations including the delivery of care, human resource management, capital and operational budgeting, equipment oversight, financial management, and performance improvement activities. The Manager is a positive, effective member of the Radiology management team, fostering a customer/patient focused perspective and ensuring a strong commitment to organizational service standards. The individual maintains collaborative multi-disciplinary relationships within and outside of the organization. The individual participates as an important member of the Department’s management team to address and resolve broad management/administrative issues such as planning for future programs and services, procedure coding and revenue capture, cost monitoring and control, patient scheduling, patient and staff safety, workflows, operational monitoring, regulatory compliance, public relations and the overall timeliness and quality of services provided to customers in assigned sections and across the Department. The Manager consults and collaborates with other members of Pipeline Health leadership to ensure the effective integration of strategic objectives, performance management, quality and improvement and technological performance. Actively and consistently contributes to department operations and communications, behaves in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Pipeline Health, upholding standards of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) patient communication.

Essential Functions:

  • Orient new employees on the overall job requirements, policies, and work procedures.
  • Interview and hire qualified job applicants.
  • Counsel employees on unsatisfactory performance and/or work behavior.
  • Responsible for staff retention, which includes ongoing staff monitoring and counseling employees at risk of ending their appointments.
  • Administer formal disciplinary action, up to and including discharge.
  • Prepare formal performance evaluations, discusses evaluations with employees, Medical Section Chief(s), and Director.
  • Delegate work duties and responsibilities.
  • Approve time off and work schedules to assure proper staff coverage.
  • Maintain time records and submit proper information to the payroll department.
  • Work in conjunction with Radiologist leaders and Pipeline Health management and staff to develop materials used to teach the technological staff.
  • Coordinate training of new staff technologists maintain staff competency and coordinate the training necessary to keep technical staff current with the latest technological advances. Ensure completion of annual competencies. Maintain training records.
  • Provide regular staff meetings and ensure written summaries are maintained.
  • Uses clear, concise, professional communication with coworkers, patients, all customers internal and external.
  • Uses AIDET in interactions with patients and family members.
  • Acts with a sense of urgency when performing tasks.
  • Basic unit/department maintenance such as keeping files, drawers, cabinets free from unnecessary clutter. Reports on any equipment and or environmental issues for repair.
  • Abides by HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations.
  • Speaks up to stop the line and escalates potential safety events if necessary.
  • Completes and attends monthly training assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Effective communication skills both in written and verbal presentation with a communication style that is open and that fosters trust, credibility and understanding.
  • Wears nametag properly; follows dress code policy; answers phone correctly and promptly; is prepared for meetings; meets deadlines; does not participate in gossip; acts ethically and treats others with respect; respects customer’s and co-worker’s time; establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers and co-workers.

Collaboration/Teamwork:

  • Attends staff meetings; follows HIPAA guidelines; follows patient rights policy; complies with the compliance program; demonstrates knowledge of role in a disaster; demonstrates knowledge of fire and fire drill procedures; working knowledge of hospital emergency codes; always utilizes standard precautions in the clinical setting; safely manages the environment of care by demonstrating a working knowledge of the requirements of the: Life Safety program, Utilities Management program, Hazardous Materials program, Emergency Preparedness program, Safety Management program, Medical Equipment Management program, Security Management program.

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Three (3) years health care operations supervisory/management experience or five (5) years of progressive relevant experience with demonstrated success and leadership skills.
  • Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills, ability to read/comprehend written instructions, strong organizational skills, ability to follow verbal instructions, and PC (computer) skills.
  • A capacity to learn, synthesize, make critical judgments, work independently, place patients and families first, and collaborate with the team members who are recognized leaders within health care.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in in Business, Healthcare Administration, Physical Science, Biological Science, or other relevant field, preferred.

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Radiology Technologist license issued by the state of California.
  • Certified American Registry of Radiology Technologists, ARRT, required.
  • Current Basic Life Support, BLS, from the American Heart Association, AHA, required.
  • Fluoroscopy (Fluoro) Certification/Licensure/Permit for state of employment, preferred.
