Job Description Times Opinion is hiring an Associate Producer to support the team making our flagship conversation show, Matter of Opinion. The ideal candidate will be passionate about conversations driven by ideas, excited about the work that Times Opinion is doing, and enthusiastic about the kind of editorial questions that Matter of Opinion explores. They will value both intellectual rigor and humor. They will also be a collaborative team player dedicated to making the best editorial product. The Associate Producer will work with the show’s editor, producers and four hosts – Carlos Lozada, Lydia Polgreen, Michelle Cottle, and Ross Douthat – to generate ideas on the week’s topics, some tied to the news and others pulled from the ether. In addition to cutting tape for episodes, the AP will support the logistical and editorial needs of the team, helping with studio bookings, taping logistics, editorial planning, prep, and team organization. Responsibilities: Research topics for episodes and compile this research into prep for the hosts Cut down segments of the show in ProTools Coordinate with other teams at the Times including the art, audience, and copy desks to make sure each episode has all assets necessary for publication Participate in brainstorming meetings for episode topics Generate ideas for headlines and show description copy Coordinate studio bookings and assist with recordings in studio and when needed in the field Support producers and hosts in other production tasks as needed Basic Qualifications: 2 years working in a media environment Proficiency in working with tape, either in audio or video Strong news judgment Familiarity with Matter of Opinion and the four hosts A spirit of collegiality and volunteerism Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with ProTools Experience working in a news environment or in opinion journalism To apply, please send a resume and cover letter with one topic recommendation for the show by April 15th. This position is represented by the NewsGuild of NY. The annual base pay salary for this role is between $66,300.00 and $75,000.00.
