CNO Financial Group, Inc. is Hiring a Remote Manager Payroll Services & Leave - remote from any US Eastern or Central time zone location

CNO Financial Group is hiring a Manager Payroll Services & Leave to oversee the payroll function, including payroll tax and payroll accounting, in accordance with industry standards, regulatory agencies, and company objectives and policies. This position is also responsible for leading 4 team members to ensure pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations, handling customer questions and complaints, and managing payroll and leave administration vendors.

As a Manager Payroll Services & Leave, your responsibilities will include:

  • Directs and monitors processing of payroll and time recording to ensure accuracy and timeliness of payrolls, account postings, balancing, and reconciliations.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage and hour laws and best practices.
  • Develops and mentors team members in the performance of their duties, establishing work priorities, cross training, building capabilities and in achieving management objectives.
  • Supervises entry of additional earnings, deductions, and benefit adjustments including, but not limited to: retro pay calculations, bonus entry, tuition reimbursement, garnishments, 401(k) plan, deferred compensation plan, and equity transactions; audits information entered into the system for processing.
  • Reviews all tax returns and regulatory correspondence to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Establishes, maintains and monitors key controls to ensure accuracy of financial statements and validity, accuracy, and timeliness of controls. Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
  • Performs General Ledger integration and other related account reconciliations.
  • Drives continuous process improvement and automation. Identifies, recommends and implements updates to payroll systems, policies and practices. Reviews and tests all systems changes having an impact on department or payroll/ time-recording processing.
  • Manages third party vendor relationships with payroll and leave administration providers, driving for consistency and quality in service delivery.


The Manager Payroll Services & Leave position
is well-suited for you if you have:

  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function, including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
  • Proficiency with Workday Payroll and Absence & Time Tracking modules.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work in deadline driven, highly regulated environment
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills; experience tailoring messages to individuals at all levels within the organization including individual contributors, managers and executive leaders.

What you’ll need:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, business or related discipline OR 8 years of relevant work experience as an equivalent.
  • At least 7 years of payroll related work experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or management capacity.
  • 3 years of Workday experience, including module expertise in Payroll, Time and Attendance and Absence Management.

What will set you apart:

  • Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) is preferred.
  • Experience working with and overseeing a third party LoA and/or payroll vendor

Associates who live within a 60-mile radius of a corporate office (Birmingham, Carmel, Chicago, Orlando and Milwaukee) have access to come into that Office up to 2 days/week, and are encouraged to come into the office at least twice per month. You may be asked to travel to corporate office periodically.

Associates who live outside of a 60-mile radius of a corporate office (Birmingham, Carmel, Chicago, Orlando and Milwaukee) may perform this role full-time work from home (WFH) from any US based location, as long as you are willing to work central or eastern time zone hours. Work cannot be performed from outside of the United States.
