Clover Park Technical College is Hiring an Interior Design Tenure Track Near Lakewood, WA

Clover Park Technical College (CPTC) is seeking a highly-skilled and innovative instructor to build a supportive environment for adult learners as they train for a career in interior design. The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with the program’s diverse student body. Will help support the colleges work to cultivate an inclusive culture and campus climate by valuing diversity, sustaining an environment of belonging, and promoting equitable opportunities for all. The successful candidate will work to eliminate equity gaps and help students succeed in their chosen career path and in what is an increasingly diverse work environment. 
The Interior Design Instructor is responsible for planning, organizing, and instructing the program curriculum designed to prepare students for a career in interior design for architecture and design firms, home-furnishing venues, and contractors. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with other instructors in the interior design program and carry out functions related to the position as described below. The successful candidate should be enthusiastic about continuously working to keep curriculum relevant, researching and implementing the latest technologies and high impact teaching practices. Additionally, the successful candidate will work collaboratively as an active participant in our shared governance processes. 
This position will teach courses related to residential and commercial interior design. Topics may include, but are not limited to, design process, drafting, drawing and rendering, materials, textiles, furnishings, lighting, sustainable design, space planning, building codes, and computer applications such as SketchUp, Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, AutoCAD, Revit and Enscape. Most courses are taught using a hybrid modality, a combination of in-person and online learning. Teaching assignment for this position is 72-80 credits annually, which is usually 4 classes each quarter, 4 quarters per year.

We seek to create an environment of innovation and excellence and focuses on student success, lifelong learning, and social responsibility.This position's duties are performed in person on our Lakewood campus. This position is represented by the Clover Park Federation of Teachers, Local 3913, AFT/ AFT Washington.Duty: Provide classroom and lab instruction utilizing a variety of teaching techniques to prepare students for entry-level employment in the interior design industry.
Tasks include:
  • Create, implement, and modify curriculum as required to meet learning outcomes. 
  • Maintain and manage classroom environment, equipment, tools, and supplies. 
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of professionalism and mutual respect with students.
  • Maintain a safe environment through instruction, policy and continuous evaluation of program equipment and laboratory space. 
  • Utilize online learning management system and incorporate multiple modalities into curriculum planning.
  • Maintain accurate student progress records updated in a timely manner and assess and provide feedback on student learning. 
  • Submit student grades in a timely manner.
  • Provide career guidance and job placement assistance.
  • Maintain current licenses and credentials required for certification and tenure purposes 
  • Other duties as assigned.
Duty: Perform administrative tasks for the Interior Design program and the College. 
Tasks include: 
  • Document and keep accurate records of student competency, performance, and attendance in accordance to the program and college policies. 
  • Participate in program promotion events, program information sessions, and other program marketing activities. 
  • Work with the advisory committee, program faculty and college administration to develop strategies for continuous program and course improvements. 
  • Attend college In-Service Day activities, department, division and other meetings and college-related events as required. 
  • Serve as an active participant on college committees. 
  • Provide and maintain program information and communication with the college community.
  • Minimum of an Associate Degree in Interior Design or related field.
  • Minimum of two years of work experience as an interior designer within the last five years. 
  • Two or more years of experience with the following software applications: SketchUp, Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, AutoCAD. 
  • The ability to contribute to the college’s commitment to diversity by fostering a climate of multicultural understanding. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Interior Design. 
  • Ten or more years work experience as an interior designer
  • National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) Certification. 
  • Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification. 
  • Five or more years of experience working with the following software applications: SketchUp, Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, AutoCAD, and Revit
