The typical day for our yard jockey driver requires operation of a manual transmission tractor/truck. Our yard jockeys are extremely important to our operations at the manufacturing facility in Reading, PA. The yard jockey is tasked with communicating with the dispatchers in the cold room warehouse as well as the loading operators and material handlers in the plant. You would be responsible for docking trailers to be loaded and unloaded into the various dock doors on-site and then staging loaded trailers in the yard for delivery route drivers.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate a heavy or tractor-trailer truck (w/ manual transmission)
• Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions.
• Coordinates with shipping, receiving and material handling partners regarding workload requirements.
• Moves trailers as needed within the yard to facilitate loading and unloading. Shuttles trailers to and from off-site facilities based on business requirements.
• Performs routine inspection of yard tractor, including safety checks and fueling, adhering to applicable regulations and procedures. Reports all maintenance and safety issues to shift lead or supervisor.
• Report defects, accidents, violations and/or incidents to dispatchers

• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Maintain a good track records of punctuality and reliability.
• Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions, etc.)
• Strong Work Ethic

Qualifications

• Valid Pennsylvania Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or B)
• Must pass DOT drug screening and DOT physical
• (Preferred) No recent moving or driving violations
