CLINPATH DIAGNOSTICS is Hiring a Molecular Technologist – Next Generation Sequencing Near Tempe, AZ

JOB SUMMARY:
Hours: 
Monday-Friday 1:30pm-10pm

The Molecular Technologist – Next Generation Sequencing will perform all job duties associated with NGS testing of solid tumors. Good reading, writing, and math abilities are required. Must be able to demonstrate good problem-solving skills, the ability to multi-task, highly developed interpersonal skills, and a high level of self-motivation. Employees are responsible for following all Company policies and procedures. These policies and procedures will include adherence to regulatory standards such as CAP, CLIA and OSHA, including safety standards in performing all aspects of the functions below. 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Knowledge of NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge in molecular principles and techniques, such as PCR, RT-PCR, nucleic acid extraction, nucleic acid quantification, and others.
  • Prepare samples for NGS sequencing, including workflows for RNA and DNA sequencing.
  • Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, data analysis, QC analysis, and maintaining records of patient results. Maintain quality assurance in laboratory services. Follow the laboratory’s established policies and procedures when test systems are not within established acceptable levels of performance. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
  • Validate new kits and protocols as determined by management.
  • Strong pipetting skills required.
  • Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot all equipment within the department.
  • Communicate problems or pertinent information to the molecular manager.
  • Assist in the administration of all Quality Control Programs.
  • Participate in proficiency testing and inspections.
  • Ability to train and mentor employees.
  • Monitor inventory and supply levels.
  • Maintain a clean and organized laboratory.
  • Maintain accurate work records (i.e., maintenance logs, temperature logs, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, ability to problem solve and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to accept constructive feedback in a positive manner and take corrective action to improve performance.
  • Perform general housekeeping tasks necessary to maintain the integrity of the laboratory.
  • Other duties as assigned by Molecular Manager.
 
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS, ENVIRONMENT :
  1. In exercising these functions, the employee must be able to exert up to 40 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force routinely to move objects.
  2. Employee may be required to work on a device, tablet or in front of a computer screen for up to 50% of a typical working day.
  3. Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height.
  4. Perform repetitive actions using lab tools.
  5. Ability to use near vision to view samples at close range.
  6. Ability to use various types of laboratory equipment, including microscopes, fume hoods, blades, pipettes, etc., for extended periods of time.
  7. Employee may be exposed to blood products, knife cuts, hazardous waste, and chemical fumes, so appropriate precautionary measures must be followed at all times. Certain situations require eye protection, mask, lab coat and or gloves. Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment required as situations arise.
  8. May be exposed to hazardous materials, tissue specimens, and instruments with moving parts, lasers, heating and freezing elements and high-speed centrifugation. Hazardous Waste training required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None  
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
REQUIRED:Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical, Physical, Biological or Clinical Laboratory Science. One year of practical NGS experience (not in a school setting). PREFERRED:Experience in working in a molecular or pathology laboratory.Possession of and ability to maintain relevant ASCP Certification. Level I: less than 3 years of relevant work experience II: 3-7 years of relevant work experience III: 8 years of relevant work experience (All experience to be determined at the discretion of the Department Manager)
