Job Title: Regional Associate Medical Director

Status: Full time

Department: Administration

Reports to: CMO 

Position Summary: Under direction of the Chief Medical Officer, will manage and oversee Physicians within the assigned regions to ensure adequate quality of care is maintained. As a Physician, will provide comprehensive, primary and preventative health care services that is culturally competent. Lead clinical departments including regional center, dental, vision, pharmacy, mental health, and any specialty or program. The role will work in partnership with the CMO to promote patient access to high quality care that is continuous, consistent, and coordinated.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, review, and implement clinical practice guidelines in alignment with mission, vision, and values of the clinic.
  • Contributes in various committees and meetings where Medical leadership input is needed and provides direct supervision of the assigned Medical providers including proper orientation of new staff.
  • Participate in the recruitment process including screening, interviewing, and selection process of medical staff and guides, directs, disciplines. Performs evaluations, coaches and mentors to motivate staff concerning work efficiency and performance to ensure standards of the clinic are met. Oversee closing encounter of provider departure.
  • Reviewing clinical practice by developing and participating in medical record audits, peer review, and other practice review
  • Review email: a) overnight- on call service- for urgency/ emergency calls – verifying documentation in EPIC. b) - morning new emails- Outlook schedule/ updates/ urgent matters needing quick response- such as Insurer/ IPA grievances.
  • Providing medical practice oversight for primary care operations to include involvement in individual provider practice and primary care program
  • Collaborate with associate medical directors and CMO to assess current policies and protocols, make recommendation, and approve all clinical policies and standing orders on a regular basis. Monitors clinical issues to ensure proper protocols are used and risk is mitigated.
  • Providing medical practice perspective and guidance with regard to managed care
  • Providing medical practice perspective and guidance to primary care partnerships with other organizations and community partners, participate in negotiation of partnership contracts and
  • Assuring quality practices are promoted by the development of practice guidelines, staff development activities, clinical practice review.
  • Assuring coordination of activities and clinical practice for medical care and clinical services.
  • Participating in and providing medical leadership and perspective in Public Health Professional Practice Committee, Quality Assurance/Improvement committee, Credentialing Committee and Leadership Group.
  • EPIC-EMR- completing office visit documentation, brief review of recent clinicians documentation for those under your supervision, review and documentation of submitted RNP- PA-C notes for compliance with standards of supervision, review lab results, review medication refill requests, responses to MyChart- patient messages, call service messages.
  • Coordinating with Chief of Nursing Services regarding nurse practitioner and nursing practice issues in clinical operations and services.
  • Providing medical perspective and leadership in critical incident reviews and other medical practice aspects of risk
  • Providing medical practice perspective with regard to department billing procedures and policies.
  • Facilitating and coordinating medical student and resident training opportunities
  • and placements in the Assuring that appropriate contracts are in place to address liability, student health, and placement issues.
  • Assists in fund development as needed.
  • Clinical departments include: medical, dental, vision, pharmacy, and mental health.
  • Provides support to integrate clinical departments with programs such as drug & alcohol, STD/HIV, Outreach and Eligibility, Case Management, Community Organizing, Women & Children, and Homeless.
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Equivalent Experience:

  • Graduation from a college or university accredited by the American Medical Association with a Doctor of Medicine degree or accredited by the American Osteopathic Association with a Doctor or Osteopathy degree. If medical education occurred at a foreign medical school, the applicant must possess a current Educational Council Foreign Medical Graduate (ECFMG) Successful completion of an approved program of residency training in family practice.
  • Board Certification in Family Practice preferred; 3-5 years of clinical experience in one or more areas of medicine; 3-5 years of administrative or supervisory experience, preferably in an ambulatory setting
  • License to practice medicine in the State of California plus current DEA registration.
