Early Childhood Teacher Assistant - Summer Opportunity! 25-30 hours per week. Starts June 3, through July 3!
Come be with adorable children from 8:30 to 1:30 for the summer! Join Cleveland Sight Center's Summer Preschool Camp team! Be a part of our licensed school that offers an alternative program for children who have a visual impairment along with their sighted peers.

BASIC FUNCTION:

Assists teachers and therapy providers in the delivery of educational and behavioral interventions of Special Education students; also assists with all students in preschool classrooms with the goal of helping students to develop appropriate social, academic, and self-help skills. Due to the varied and individual needs of each student, Teacher Assistants may provide a variety of support and assistance, and should be flexible adjusting to student needs.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement educational interventions designed by Special Ed / TVI Teachers to help students meet educational, academic, life skill, behavioral, physical, social and emotional goals.
  • Assists students with basic dress and grooming self-care.
  • Administers medications as trained, assigned, and directed.
  • Attends to physical needs of students. May include handling equipment such gait trainer, HOPSA dress, activity chair, wheelchairs and braces, (how to refit once removed, now to use properly, and physical lifting).
  • Provide small group instruction and supervision as directed.
  • Communicates effectively with staff, students, and/or parents regarding needs and concerns.
  • Learn and implement a variety of behavior plans for students.
  • Performs healthcare procedures as required. This may include any of the following which qualify for the Bodily Fluid Increment if performed on a regular basis:
    • Special dietary Feeding (includes preparation)
    • Toileting
    • Diapering
    • Tube feeding
    • Any others which may be assigned
  • Assists in preparation of materials needed for classrooms, including duplication, lamination, etc.
  • Assists in and around the preschool with outdoor/lunch/bus duty and general assistance in hallways and classrooms. Attends staff meetings and trainings as needed.
  • Attend and participate in parent/teacher conferences as directed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information regarding the children and their families assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Coursework in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, or Nursing preferred.
Experience: One year of working with young children preferably with special needs.
Skills: Ability to interact and communicate effectively with children with special needs. Ability to provide behavior management and crisis intervention. Ability to work as a team member providing services to children with visual impairment and other special needs.
Physical: Must be able to feel attributes of objects, grasp, push, stand/walk/run, reach, and stoop/kneel/crouch, climb. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds. May be exposed to potentially hazardous bodily fluids when assisting students with physical needs. May be required to work in a physically hazardous setting when a student is in crisis.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Basic knowledge of the most popular Microsoft Office programs such as Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Ability to use and input into software applications
  • Provide program support as needed to department programs and activities
  • Work extended and off hours
  • Maintain physical and skill requirements of position.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
