As a Group Psychotherapist, you will be working with a vulnerable population, serving as their advocates and support system. In this role, your duties will include but are not limited to: • Providing assessments and group therapy to patients in the intensive outpatient program. • Developing an individualized care plan for assigned patients. • Setting and maintaining appropriate limits as well as managing disruptive behavior to ensure patient safety. • Participating in making referrals, coordinating treatment and discharge planning. • Attending multidisciplinary treatment team conferences as requested. Job Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Responsibilities include: Initiates, coordinates and provides a program of group psychotherapy to patients in the intensive outpatient program.
  • Actively participates in program planning and other committees as necessary to ensure integration of the group psychotherapy program into the overall programming of the Center for Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Collaborates with other clinical disciplines as necessary to the planning process.
  • Monitors quality assurance outcomes of the group psychotherapy program through the use of appropriate selected indicators.
  • Is skilled in a broad variety of group modalities and approaches appropriate to the population being treated.
  • Provides clear, concise documentation of services rendered for all patients in a timely fashion. Documentation addresses the several needs of delineating services provided, evaluating the patient's treatment progress within the group therapy experience, and providing an adequate basis for reimbursement of services.
  • Attends multidisciplinary treatment team conferences as requested.
  • Integrates multidisciplinary plan of care into services provided.
  • Communicates appropriate clinical information to physicians, nurses and other colleagues involved in patient care.
  • Administers appropriate assessments, contributes to and participates in the development of the interdisciplinary treatment plan.
  • Develops, administers and adapts programs and treatment procedures to assigned patients on the basis of assessed needs and the interdisciplinary treatment plan.
  • Sets and maintains appropriate limits and manages disruptive behavior according to Akron
  • General Medical Center's policies and procedures to ensure patient safety.
  • Communicates with appropriate multidisciplinary staff on a timely basis, any significant issues raised during the treatment group.
  • Documents pertinent patient information in a concise and legible format and enters it into the medical record in a timely manner.
  • Participates in making referrals, coordinating treatment and discharge planning in the multidisciplinary approach to patient management.
  • Demonstrates professional conduct that actively supports AGMC and Center for Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences mission statements and goals.
  • Actively contributes to and supports interdisciplinary professional cohesion, physical maintenance and material management of the Center for Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
  • Screens all assigned patients for appropriateness to the intensive outpatient program.
  • Completes intake evaluation and assessments on assigned patients.
  • Develops an individualized care plan on assigned patients.
  • Identifies appropriate problems/needs of patients.
  • Identifies goals for patients.
  • Provides or directs patient care from admission through discharge.
  • Plans and attends multidisciplinary conferences.
  • Systematically records the progress of the patients in the intensive outpatient program.
  • Participates in quality assurance activities to evaluate the effectiveness of patient care.
  • Professional Educational Responsibilities
  • Engages in clinical supervision and continuing education as necessary to maintain current clinical skills, credentialing and reimbursability.
  • Provides clinical education and experiential supervision within realm of expertise to psychiatric residents and other professional clinical students as directed by the Clinical Manager.
  • Provides community education within realm of expertise to selected community groups under the direction of the Clinical Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Follows Hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.
  • Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department-specific competencies and requirements.

Education:

  • Master's degree in social work or counseling.

Certifications:

  • Must have appropriate state licensure as one of the following: Licensed Professional Counselor OR Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor OR Licensed Social Worker OR Licensed Independent Social Worker.
  • Must have education licensure and credentialing necessary to secure reimbursement for group therapy services.

Complexity of Work:

  • Maintains competencies specific to patient population served.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health care team.

Work Experience:

  • Two years of experience in mental health service delivery with one year full time equivalent experience in leading group therapy.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, pull, push and facilitate movement of the patient.
  • Must have normal or correctable vision.
  • Must have normal or correctable hearing to be able to hear normal conversations.
