This position will support both our Women's & Children's area and Unit-based responsibilities within Fairview Hospital Pharmacy.
The women and children’s clinical pharmacy specialist is a team-based position responsible for taking care of patients admitted to our women and children’s units. These units include obstetrics (labor and delivery, high risk obstetrics, and postpartum units), general pediatrics, child and adolescent psychiatry, and the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Two pharmacists split the service line coverage typically Monday through Friday. Daily clinical pharmacy services include but are not limited to: bedside rounding with the inpatient NICU or high-risk obstetrics teams, providing patient education and counseling, nursing, physician and pharmacy in-services, policy and procedure development, research, and precepting learners. Medical and pharmacy students and residents are present on all women and children’s floors, including NICU and Child Psychiatry fellows. Longitudinally, the women and children’s pharmacists participate in various local and enterprise-wide committees and have opportunities to participate in enterprise-wide projects and initiatives.
Ideal candidates would have post-graduate PGY-1 training and experience with one or more of the above care-areas.
The unit based clinical pharmacist rotates through a variety of nursing units including general medica/surgery units, cardiology units, neurology units, oncology units, and nephrology units as well as central operations. There is also opportunity to cross train in clinical specialty areas (Critical Care, Women and Children’s Health, Emergency Medicine, and Outpatient Oncology) based on practice areas of interest for the pharmacist. Typical duties include order verification, code response, completion of consult agreements, medication histories and reconciliation, and patient education.
