Overview:

We seek an IT Trainer who draws on solid technical know-how, adult learning best practices, and a multitude of training delivery methods while employing a consultative approach to ensure that legal and professional staff in the Firm receive comprehensive, effective, and timely technical training to enable them to productively use systems and applications that the Firm has developed, acquired, or customized.

As a member of the Americas IT Training Team as well as the Global IT Training team, the IT Trainer also partners with team colleagues across the Firm to develop and deliver value-add technical and IT-related learning experiences for the Firm. Domestic and International travel may occasionally be required (likely frequency can be discussed as part of the recruitment process).

In addition to delivering core employee IT training for new hire, supplemented by job role-specific training, the IT Trainer works with legal and professional staff throughout their tenure at the Firm to identify opportunities to leverage software to maximize individual and work group productivity, and also works on projects related to rollout of new software and technologies both locally, regionally and globally.

Responsibilities:

The IT Trainer will:

  • Approach delivering IT Training with a business analyst and technical advisory lens.
  • Deliver technical training to new and returning legal and professional staff of all levels in one-on-one, small group, and large group scenarios; this includes delivering training to summer associates, fall associates, new paralegal classes, summer interns, and lateral partners.
  • Follow up with new and returning legal and professional staff to ensure that people are acclimating to firm systems, to provide answers to questions or to provide micro training sessions or further support and training as needed.
  • Deliver ongoing IT Training to firm personnel in the use of software applications developed or customized by the firms IT staff. This may include in-classroom, web- or videoconference sessions, special desk-side training/support for certain individuals, preparation of reference guides, or creation/modification of slideshows/videos/animations. Working with IT project teams, vendors and others to understand how the software supports the business of the firm.
  • Contribute to maintaining a library of learning content, in conjunction with the Global IT Training Team.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining training curricula, course descriptions, class schedules, evaluation criteria, learning paths, and attendance records using the firms learning management system.
  • Engage with the Service Desk team to continuously improve the scale, depth, and quality of training, and application utilization, by understanding the types and frequency of employee service requests and then subsequently adapting existing training or developing new training.
  • Partner with the Practice Development and the Learning and Development teams as well as office department heads to conduct ongoing needs assessment and design or adapt training to specific departmental, team and individual needs.
  • Partner with Human Resources to provide remedial technical training to employees that need to upskill.
  • Develop strategies to apply software features to specific individual and work group challenges in order to improve quality of work or increase productivity. Promote best practices among various end user communities through outreach, communication, and direct assistance.
  • Conduct floor support exercises to provide ad-hoc desk-side training and coaching to individuals and groups.
  • Work collaboratively with global teams on special projects that may require certain expertise in advanced functions of firm standard applications.
  • Lead Trainer role on global rollouts when assigned, to provide input on change management elements (including communications and learning needs) to the Project Manager, upskill other IT Training team members as needed in preparation for go live and provide required training to end users.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree plus a minimum of 3 years of learning/development/training experience in a medium-to-large professional services organization (previous law firm experience preferred but not essential for otherwise strong candidates).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively interact and collaborate with law firm personnel and external vendor representatives of all levels.
  • Strong, proactive customer service orientation.
  • Ability to inspire confidence and put personnel of all levels at ease while receiving training and to reduce reluctance to proactively seek training.
  • Engaging presence and superior facilitation skills.
  • Intellectually agile and able to understand all functions of the firm to effectively support specialized tasks and projects.
  • Superior ability to relate technical functions and software features to business needs and communicate technical details to non-IT professionals.
  • Ability to seamlessly partner with legal practice groups and non-IT business functions of the firm, to address training and development needs that include/engage technologies.
  • Ability to think creatively and thoroughly and be able to demonstrate the acumen to problem solve complex tasks.
  • Outstanding proficiency in major productivity suites and well as email, word processing, spreadsheet, data analysis, and document management software.
  • Demonstrated interest in monitoring the software space for emerging productivity trends and tools.
  • Quick study at learning new software including legal-specific Microsoft Office extensions e.g. for document numbering etc.
  • Creative in training approaches to identify and implement solutions to increase the quality, reach, and retention of training.
  • Prior use of a learning management system to establish learning paths, administer classes, and track and record attendance preferred.
  • Experience creating training videos, animations, or online materials using content authoring software such as Camtasia preferred.
  • Flexibility to deliver training during the Firms core business hours and occasionally outside of the firms core business hours if needed.
  • Flexibility to occasionally travel domestically and internationally as needed to support Global IT Training Function.
