What The Role Is

The SCADA & Controls Engineer I is a contributing member of the SCADA & Controls team within the Operations & Maintenance organization. This individual is responsible for leveraging their technical expertise to support sustaining operations for the existing fleet of utility scale solar and wind generating stations. This includes troubleshooting and data analysis of telemetry and controls interfaces to optimize processes, safety, efficiency, cost and revenue. This position includes up to 15% travel.

What You'll Be Doing

• Leverage engineering skill set in the support of SCADA & Controls equipment and their data interfaces used to serve site data to consumers and issue commands to operate plants.
• Troubleshoot data integrity issues between site and remote interfaces, providing break/fix support, including travel to site as needed.
• Provide on call support to the Realtime operating desk and/or plant operations for SCADA & Controls related issues, occasionally outside of normal business hours.
• Baseline and improve performance of SCADA & Controls equipment and control algorithms through the use of data analytics and simulation modeling tools.
• Drive SCADA & Controls related field modifications through the Management of Change Process, maintaining rigor in documentation, analysis of risk along with review & approval through concerned parties.
• Fully understand fielded control algorithms and modify software as needed to improve site operations/performance
• Coordinate OEM software/configuration updates, reviewing modifications for impact to site and interconnected systems.
• Perform site operational compliance testing in accordance with regulatory body standards, documenting results
• Manage user access to SCADA & Controls equipment, assigning/revoking authentication credentials as needed
• Pursue continuous improvement by keeping abreast of industry standards and implementing innovative new designs to enhance plant reliability and performance
• Support Clearway’s cybersecurity strategy, ensuring defense in depth mechanisms are implemented on SCADA & Controls equipment as specified.

What You'll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program required.
• Knowledge of SCADA systems, SCADA connected software, Bazefield
• Familiarity with OPC, Modbus, SEL, and DNP3 protocols
• Basic understanding of Grid Tied power generation controls
• Strong Verbal and written communication skills
• Highly data driven and analytical
• Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures
• Ability to teach, train & mentor
• High proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word & Outlook
• Project management skills
• Customer focus driven

What Would Be Nice

• SCADA Systems or related experience highly preferred
• Ability to interpret NERC, ERCOT, WECC CAISO & ISONE regulations
• Understanding of network security protocols and cyber security standards
• Experience with Renewable Plant control architecture
• Experience with SEL RTAC / IEC 61131 Logic Engine, or comparable substation control devices such as PLCs.
• Experience with programming substation relays (GE, SEL, etc.)
• Experience with Software change management best practices
• Knowledge of industry trends
• Knowledge of IT networks and telecommunications infrastructure
