Job Summary

The Area Manager will be responsible for the overall operation and growth of their territory. This individual will be responsible for providing direction, growth and ensuring the success of their assigned project locations.

Responsibilities

  • Review and understand all contracts of assigned projects to ensure compliance and customer satisfaction
  • Maintains ongoing client contact to keep the client informed and strengthen client relations
  • Attend monthly Project Manager meetings to review financials, set goals, and collaborate to maximize efficient operations
  • Develop and maintain effective tools to measure growth and performance
  • Review and evaluate financial performance to determine activities required to meet the company’s goals
  • Prepare performance reports to upper administration
  • Implement and track performance by preparing weekly reports for each project
  • Identify and suggest opportunities for employees to learn new skills, techniques and required training
  • Communicate daily with the Project Managers and assist with the organizing and scheduling of work and identify their specific project needs
  • Maintain strong relationships with the city officials, employees, contractors, the general public, and representatives of other agencies
  • Ensures that business goals are effectively communicated
  • Attends customer meetings and handles resolution of service problems in a professional manner
  • Prepare clear and comprehensive verbal and/or written reports to council/board as required Performs other related duties as directed

Qualifications


  • High school diploma or GED (or ability to obtain within 90 days)
  • State Certification (Water Treatment, Wastewater Treatment, Natural Gas, Public Works)
  • 5 years’ experience in Public Works (specifically water distribution, natural gas distribution, WWTP, collections)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • 5 years’ experience at a supervisory level
  • Possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License

Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Preferred

  • Knowledge of municipal public works such as planning, design, maintenance, and construction
  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment used in municipal public works operations
  • Knowledge of principles of budget preparation and expenditure control
  • Knowledge of Principles of Effective Management Skills
  • Ability to analyze, evaluate, and implement municipal public works and utility programs/projects
  • Ability to analyze organizational and administrative problems, recommend alternative courses of action, and provide leadership to others in implementing such actions 

Physical Requirements

Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, twist and bend at the waist, turn, kneel, squat, raise arms above shoulder height, grasp, reach, and perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to operate equipment, have vision sufficient to operate equipment, have hearing in the normal range with or without correction. In an 8-hour shift must be able to transport self, lift objects up to 50 pounds from floor level to waist height including items which may be bulky or awkward, climb into and out of vehicles having high ground clearance; carry a 50-pound tool box; use arms and back to tighten and loosen nuts and bolts; work in confined places; wear and use appropriate safety equipment.

Work Environment

The work area can involve a working environment indoors as well as outdoors, which could cause exposure to outdoor elements; proper environmental attire will be required. Some areas can have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, pathogens and various chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.
