Description

POSITION TITLE: Chief Operating Officer

REPORTS TO: Chief Executive Officer

SUPERVISES:
Directly supervises: Director of Engineering, VP of Guest Experience and Engagement, VP of Marketing, Warehouse Manager, Third Party Vendors as needed.
Indirectly supervises: Manager of Security.

EXEMPT OR NON-EXEMPT: Exempt

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position guides the companys workflow strategy and organizes all essential business processes to ensure smooth and efficient day-to-day operations. The incumbent plans, changes and updates to day-to-day operations to maximize revenue streams, and collaborates with other executive staff to set and meet business objectives that support CMAs mission, vision, and values. The incumbent manages all parts of the operation to include but not limited to front-line, guest-facing, and behind-the-scenes departments to ensure a seamless and consistent experience for clients and stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist the C-Suite and Board of Directors to design the companys overall mission, vision, and strategic goals.
  • Implementation of CEO strategies and initiatives, daily supervision and direction of departments and employees within the organization.
  • Design and implement business operations, establish policies that promote the companys vision and values
  • Oversees the ongoing operations of all departments in the company
  • Promotes communication and cooperation among departments to create a spirit of unity in the organization
  • Presents regular reports on the status of the companys operations to the board of directors and to company staff.
  • Oversees the organizations financial structure, ensuring adequate and sound funding for the mission and goals of the company.
  • Reviews the financial results of all operations, comparing them with the companys objectives and taking appropriate measures to correct unsatisfactory performance and results.
  • Ensures the companys compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations and standards
  • Developing & implementing various fundraising strategies and plans with the CEO and Chief Development Officer to include but not limited to:
    • Foundation grants
    • Private events
    • Tour operators
    • School groups
  • Assist in fundraising initiatives to support expansion activities
  • Involvement in setting and managing the organizations finances and budgets
  • Forming and developing governmental relationships at the local, regional and state levels
  • Manage and foster positive relationships with vendors, partners, and other stakeholders
  • Optimizing use of space in current and future facility to maximize revenue streams and operational efficiency contributing to company growth and sustainability
  • Responsible for setting, implementing, revising, and measuring the success of the organizations Strategic Plan
  • Attend regular meetings with the Board of Directors and share relevant company information specific to area of oversight. Serve as liaison between Clearwater Marine Aquarium and the Board as needed.
  • Serves as a key fundraiser in support of the Development department of Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Ensures execution of world-class events from start to finish in support of Development departments fund-raising initiatives.
  • Coordinates with HR to cultivate talent within the organization and create career paths to allow for advancement from within
  • Works with executive team to establish company performance goals and metrics for each department

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors degree in Management/Business Administration or related field required. Masters degree preferred
  • 10 years experience in comparable industries with 5 years in a senior management position, including management oversight of at least two staff
  • Prior non-profit experience preferred
  • Understanding of Finance and HR, IT Business Infrastructure
  • Excellent managerial and financial skills and the ability to take leadership over any business operations area.
  • Thorough understanding of management and financial practices in all areas and phases of the business operations.
  • Experience working with and alongside a board of directors
  • Strategic planning ability
  • Must be able to work independently and exercise discretion and good judgment in problem-solving and decision making.
  • Ability to plan and manage at both strategic and operational levels.
  • Exceptional track record of utilizing independent judgment and discretion to develop and implement strategies that consistently meet or exceed planned objectives, providing personal leadership through example.
  • Substantial experience working with business and industry peers.
  • Experience in the strategic planning, implementation and management of comprehensive fundraising campaigns is desired.
  • A demonstrated capacity to lead, manage and motivate professional and support staff across all levels of the organization (senior staff, subordinates, Board members, and volunteers.)
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and staff to create a results-driven, team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to establish and maintain executive level relationships

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to withstand outdoor conditions (heat, humidity, etc.) for short durations- frequently
  • Standing and sitting for extended periods of time - frequently
