Clear Creek County, Colorado is Hiring a Trail Near Georgetown, CO

JOB SUMMARY :

Assist in all of the activities of the Clear Creek County Trails Strikeforce activities - including but not limited to : assessment, maintenance, construction, and management of the County's trail system and Greenway.

PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES :

  • Perform a full range of trail maintenance and repair duties such as : vegetation trimming, weed mitigation, erosion control, re-enforcing washouts and other damaged trail sections, signage installation, fallen tree removal, debris and trash removal.
  • Perform trail construction of new trails along with re-routes and re-alignments of existing trail sections as required.
  • Install signs along the trail and at trailheads and other locations as needed
  • Perform trailhead maintenance and construction actions
  • Assist with trail assessments and reporting as needed, including updating the characteristics inventory of all trails repaired or enhanced
  • Trim and prune bushes, trees, etc. to provide trail and sidewalk clearance
  • Operate and maintain a full range of maintenance equipment such as leaf blowers, chainsaws, UTV, and other hand and power tools.
  • Remove fallen trees, stumps, fallen limbs and related debris resulting from storm damage.
  • Patrol trails and identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, and report needs to appropriate staff.
  • Deal courteously and tactfully with the public in response to inquiries and complaints; provide information on the rules of the area and trails.
  • Remove debris and trash left along trail areas.
  • Promote a positive-can-do atmosphere in division operations. Promote innovation and creativity in all facets of trail operations.

Create an environment where division employees feel empowered and collaborative problem solving is encouraged.

  • Provide exceptional customer service for our citizens and maintains effective working relationship with internal and external customers.
  • Report license plate numbers of illegally parked vehicles along County roads or illegal motorized type vehicles on passive recreation trails. Use cell to photo.
  • Work with the towns as needed to assist or combine efforts on similar items on town sections as determined by the Trails Supervisor;
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS :

EDUCATION :

Completion of high school or GED equivalent

EXPERIENCE :

Some trails maintenance or related experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES :

  • Exhibit patience and composure in difficult situations;
  • Take initiative and follow through on projects;
  • Report status of ongoing projects to supervisor on timely basis;
  • Work independently and execute judgment appropriately;
  • Interact with the public and other employees in a tactful and positive manner;
  • The ability to operate County vehicles, power tools including chain saws, drills, hand tools including axes, rakes, McLeods, Pulaski's, pick mattocks, and others;
  • Analyze situations carefully and adopt effective course(s) of action.
  • Basic methods, techniques and tools used in the construction and maintenance of trails, parks, and related recreational areas;
  • Safe work practices;
  • Preventative maintenance requirements for all tools and equipment;
  • Learn County policies and procedures and codes related to ground maintenance;
  • Able to maintain courteous and effective working relationships with the public, County departments, co-workers and other agencies
  • Ability to drive a vehicle including pickup truck, trailer loading, and drive a Polaris Brutus UTV maintenance vehicle.
  • Must be able to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions, and be able to perform manual labor for extended periods of time in all kinds of weather.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and procedures in the design, construction and maintenance of trails;

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :

Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License with no restrictions

Must pass background check : Criminal and Traffic Conviction of a crime will not be an absolute bar to employment

Must pass drug test

Required legal authorization to work - United States citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT :

  • Work is primarily performed outdoors. Outdoor work may occur in a variety of climactic conditions such as extreme cold, heat, sun, wind, rain and snow.
  • Work independently in remote areas.
  • Hearing voice conversation is essential to safe and effective job performance.
  • Must be 18 years or older to operate most equipment.
  • Exposure may occur to : noise and fumes from a variety of equipment, odors, dust, and equipment hazards.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; talk and hear; use hand to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls;
  • climb (negotiating rugged terrain), balance; twist and turn the upper body; stoop, kneel, squat, crouch, climb, or crawl;

and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit for a period of time.

  • Physical demands are described as high (exert up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and / or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly in order to move or dislodge objects).
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, adjust focus, color vision, and peripheral vision.
