POSITION SUMMARY: Plans, organizes, coordinates, and supervises the organizational and administrative operations of the Transportation Department and the work of subordinates; estimates and requisitions supplies and equipment needed, oversee school bus routing, maintains accurate and current records of operations and cost; prepare and submit reports; establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with the public and District personnel. This position reports to the Coordinator of Transportation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervisors monitors the day-to-day operations, evaluate transportation personnel (Supervisors, Specialist, Routers, Dispatchers, Drivers, etc). Coordinates scheduling for department extracurricular programs (field trips, after-school programs, athletics, etc. Assist in the day-to-day payroll, and provides training for support personnel. Responds to accidents as necessary. Manages the coordination of school day routes for regular and special needs education, afterschool routes, summer school routes, and the coordination of homeless transportation. Manages and updates the map in the routing software with updated street information, street speed, hazard status, and direction of travel. Acts as the liaison with the software routing company. Assists in providing information for the State Superintendent’s report. Assists in maintaining non-transported zones, hazard zones, and school attendance boundaries, assists in creating timelines and deadlines for programs and operating procedures. Manages the operation of the Dispatch Operations Centers. Creates dispatch procedures and guidelines. Plan, organizes, and support the operations of the District’s vehicle maintenance programs. Requisition and purchases transportation supplies, supervises the customer service center, compliance with local, state, and federal laws, regulations, standards, rules, and policies. All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors degree in related field required. Five (5) years of responsible experience in transportation, including two (2) years of experience in a supervisory capacity. Prior experience in the coordination of a K-12 District or large organization transportation department. Makes recommendations that affect the activities of the District. Valid GA Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) class B. Moderate level of judgment required: supervisor is available on a limited-time basis; individual required to establish and evaluate departmental objectives. Requires regular, frequent contact with internal personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance; requires continuing contact with officials at higher levels. Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with inter-organizational teams.
