Classification Summary:

Individuals in positions allocated to this class, and assigned to a District, perform the required work in a district which involves handling electric service applications and maintaining records, and other engineering related activities. Primary responsibilities include handling electric service applications or other service inquires, preparing staking sheets and processing permits/right-of-way easements.

Individuals in positions allocated to this class, and assigned to the E & O - Engineering Department, perform reliable professional engineering services in the area of system planning, transmission substations and distribution design. Primary responsibilities include minor project engineering and/or developing phases of major projects. Responsibilities may also include performing engineering computations, conducting studies resulting in estimates and surveys which will produce statistical reports used in the design of project specifications.

Work is performed independently under the direct supervision of a District Engineer, Senior Engineer or assigned Division Manager who evaluates the work on a daily basis to ensure that the duties and responsibilities are being performed in a satisfactory manner.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Works with customers, builders or developers. Works with customers, builders or developers to ensure there is a good understanding between them and Clay Electric about the requirements for new services as stipulated in the Standards for Electric Service and the customer, builder or developer's needs. 
  2. Job Orders. Receives, stakes and processes job orders, ensuring required engineering and related data/records are kept up-to-date. 
  3. Mapping System. Utilizes and maintains automated mapping system ensuring projects are properly and timely entered into the mapping system with accurate engineering data. 
  4. Engineering Projects. Handles project and/or design for various types and levels of projects in engineering. 
  5. Easements. Prepares and processes permits/right-of-way easements. Compiles and submits reports as required or directed. 
  6. Cost Estimates. Prepares cost estimates as required. Makes engineering studies, surveys or performs other similar work as needed. Prepares statistics, reports, minor design and project specifications. 
  7. ContactsManufacturer’s Representatives.Contacts manufacturer’s representatives and assumes minor supervisory responsibility for construction projects in the field as directed. 
  8. Vehicle Operation. Operates assigned vehicle in a safe and efficient manner and keeps the vehicle clean and orderly, while coordinating any necessary repairs or maintenance items with Fleet Services. Complies with all traffic laws and related safety rules and safe work practices in the Cooperative Safety Manual
  9. Safety. Practices safe work habits in the performance of all job duties and is familiar with and follows those portions of the Cooperative Safety Manual that pertain to the position 
  10. Other Essential Duties. Each employee is responsible to perform other duties as required to benefit the Cooperative and its members, includes responding to and/or assisting in emergency situations.

Minimum Training and Experience:

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus two (2) years of experience as a Clay Electric Engineering Technician and completion of Clay Electric's engineering curriculum for Engineering Aide Level I and II and Engineering Technician.

Substitution:

A four (4) year Bachelor of Engineering Technology degree from an ETAC/ABET accredited program, or Hi-Line Comprehensive Staking Technician Certification, or equivalent, may substitute for the Engineering Aide Level I and II and Engineering Technician curriculum.

Equivalent experience outside of Clay Electric may substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis.

Individuals in this position must maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to read circuit diagrams and maps concerning the electric system, to utilize the engineering mapping system, the customer information system, and other computer-based systems, as required.

Ability to comprehend and understand construction work plans.

Ability to prepare work-related studies and surveys.

Ability to work with other divisions in order to render the most efficient service possible.

Ability to design and prepare plans and specifications for electric distribution facilities.

Comprehensive knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code, Clay Electric’s Construction Standards, Clay Electric’s Standards of Electric Service and be knowledgeable of the National Electric Code.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other technology software/tools used in the district, including the use of iPads and other company issued electronic devices.

Employees in this position assigned to a District shall comply with Policy # 110., "- Residence Required in Districts and Operations Department".
