Classical Preparatory School is Hiring a 6-12 Student Support Teacher Near Spring, FL

Job Description

At Classical Prep, the role of a Student Support Teacher (SST) is to lead staff and students in pursuit of the goals of our school and our mission.

Overview

  • Position: 10-month, exempt
  • Work Schedule: 7:00 am -3:00 pm daily, 200 days, plus occasional nights and weekends as necessary.
  • Benefits: Insurance benefits the first of the month following the hire date of full-time employment, a 3% match of employee retirement contribution (after one year of employment), and seven days PTO.
  • Reports to Upper School Principal
  • Work hours are subject to change.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Knowledge and understanding of federal guidelines, state guidelines, community agencies, and resources related to ESE services
    • Knowledge of federal, state, and district-mandated testing requirements
    • Ability to use evidence-based classroom management and individual behavior management strategies and techniques
    • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media
    • Advanced knowledge of and use of personal computers and programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
    • Ability to organize, prioritize, manage, and carry out duties efficiently and within established timeframes
    • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders
  • Education, Training & Experience
    • Three years of teaching experience in a school setting
    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field

OR

  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position
  • Certification, Licenses & Registrations
    • Valid Florida teaching license/certification

OR

  • Valid statement of eligibility

May apply without having either document, but will be required to apply for initial certification.

Specific tasks required of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities
      • Monitor, assist, supervise, and support students during teacher-directed whole group, small group, individualized instruction, independent work, and cooperative learning activities
      • Provide follow-up and review after teacher-directed instruction and learned behaviors and skills, including the use of assistive technology, in a comprehensible manner that enables students to approach content with success
      • Assist teacher(s) with administration of appropriate assessments and evaluation of student progress and comprehension regularly, including preparing progress reports, providing feedback, and maintaining open lines of communication with students and parent(s)/guardian(s) as applicable, which includes preparing and disseminating family communication documents.
  • Response to Intervention
    • Implement Tier 3 response to intervention instructional systems to increase student achievement
    • Make data-based instructional decisions regarding student learning needs
    • Stay current with RtI trends and research-based interventions so teachers and students are offered a variety of interventions
    • Provide documentation and progress monitoring data to school psychologists, ESE Team, and teachers as needed
    • Communicate with parents, teachers, and paraprofessionals regarding students who are receiving services on Tier 2 or Tier 3 or special education
    • Accountable for increasing student achievement as determined by benchmark testing
    • Progress monitor students involved in the RtI process to ensure that interventions are implemented with fidelity and show student progress using graphs and charts
  • Supporting Exceptional Students
    • Under the ESE Coordinator’s supervision, provide accommodations/modifications and related services as documented in the students’ IEPs.
    • Collaborate with Instructional Coach to compile and respond to school-wide data from benchmark testing and progress monitoring for data analysis
    • Maintain accurate records and documentation for students receiving ESE support services
    • Communicate with parents, teachers, and paraprofessionals regarding students who are receiving services in special education
    • Provide documentation and progress monitoring data to school psychologists, ESE Team, and teachers as needed
    • Assist the school in the decision-making process required for determining accommodations for students with disabilities participating in standard assessments
  • Professional Development
    • Attend and participate in all professional development activities
    • Maintain personal and professional development records regarding certification

Overtime Eligibility

This job is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
