Closing Date Position Summary: Dual Language Immersion Substitute Teachers provide face-to-face instruction in Spanish and English with students in the school building with specific responsibility for developing students' ability to effectively perform courses of study in both English and Spanish languages. Additionally, Substitute Teachers perform related duties in lieu of the absent educator, or in a class that does not have an assigned educator and ensure continuity of appropriate learning during the absence of permanent educators. Substitutes must be adaptable to changing school and district needs and able to create and maintain a climate that promotes respect, tolerance, and peaceful problem solving for all students. DLI substitutes also respond to a wide range of inquiries from students' parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress. This position is on-call and is assigned based on operational needs. Performance Responsibilities:
Reports in person to the school building to provide face-to-face instruction to students
Able to provide instruction simultaneously to in-person and remote learners, if necessary
Responsive to changing school and district instructional needs
Provides classroom instruction to students as outlined in lesson plans
Creates a classroom that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students
Maintains a safe and orderly environment
Maintains established routine of the school and classroom procedures in which assigned
Maintains a professional appearance
Remains at school the entire school day, unless otherwise instructed to leave by building principal
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
Maintains reasonable rules of conduct which encourage self-discipline and responsibility
Communicates effectively with parents as needed
Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated
Monitors students in the classroom, at lunch and throughout the school by maintaining order and discipline
Perform duties, as assigned, with awareness of Atlanta Public Schools Board policies
DLI Specific Performance Responsibilities
Provides instruction in Spanish for the purpose of achieving success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through defined lesson plans
Adapts classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans
Administers tests and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating students' language ability
Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations; student's achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment
Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration
Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan
Directs assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students
Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, nap times, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment
Participates in a variety of meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions
Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
Prepares a variety of written materials in both English and Spanish (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements

The minimum requirements to be considered for Substitute Teaching positions are as follows:
Available for face-to-face instruction within the school building with students present
HS Diploma/GED
Pass a GBI Criminal Background Check
Valid or expired Georgia Teacher or Paraprofessional Certificate OR STEDI Substitute Diploma
Must relate well to students and inspire the love of learning
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to comprehend and follow directives
High levels of proficiency (speaking, reading, and writing) in both English and Spanish
Expertise in using best instructional practices, such as standards-based teaching, instructional assessment, cooperative learning, and differentiated instruction
Experience integrating multicultural concepts across the curriculum preferred
Skilled in teaching diverse students
Compensation
$87.05-$145.03 per day (Pay rate is based on qualifications held at hire.) FLSA Status NON-EXEMPT
