Description

This is a grant-funded position for the academic year 2022-2023 (grant ends 6/30/2023).
PURPOSE OF POSITION
:
The GED Wraparound Navigator provides targeted support to GED and Spanish GED students at the college. This includes assisting students with navigating college systems, providing individualized support with academic and non-academic needs, and connecting learners with various resources in order to help them succeed in their educational pursuits.
The GED Wraparound Navigator provides holistic service and support to incoming and returning GED students at CCC. They use a case management approach to provide students with academic, technical, financial, and basic-needs support. The GED Wraparound Navigator works with students to develop clear educational plans, and supports them in utilizing academic tools such as the library, course syllabi, and Moodle. They connect students with various campus departments such as advising, placement, and career services, and also help students access various resources at the college in order to persist in their studies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
:
  • At the direction of the supervisor, proactively reach out to and follow up with identified students using best practices in a case management approach.
  • Connect Skills Development/GED students with college and community resources (i.e SNAP, STEP, workforce resources, etc) to support student persistence and completion.
  • Recruit, establish rapport, communicate with, case manage students in Integrated Education and Training programs.
  • Support development and scaling of IET programs.
  • Utilize technology and software, including Colleague, Navigate, CRM, Outlook, etc. to accomplish job functions including accurate data entry, student record maintenance, student communication, and reports.
  • Refer students to appropriate resources related to services needed outside of the scope of the position, such as mental health, housing and food assistance.
  • Develop content, materials, presentations and workshops to promote educational resources with students, including financial literacy, myClackamas portal, Navigate student success app, Self-Service tools for registration and academic success topics.
  • Provide information and guidance for identified students in specific cohort and/or IET programs with getting started at CCC including applying for admission; career planning; program selection, completing financial aid and scholarship applications; online orientation and placement.
  • Generate correspondence, reports, forms, tables, and presentations.
  • Work with individuals that may be frustrated or dissatisfied in a productive and respectful manner, with the goal of de-escalating issues and resolving identified concerns.
  • Accurately disseminate detailed information in small and large groups through excellent written and verbal communications.
  • Conduct student needs analysis, make professional judgment decisions regarding policies and procedures, and identify barriers and facilitate problem resolution with students and staff as appropriate.
  • Connect with students who may be at-risk of stopping out and help identify strategies that can assist in persisting in CCC education.
  • Serve as a resource for students from diverse and underserved backgrounds to assist with and advocate for the removal of institutional barriers that impact academic and professional success with sensitivity and awareness.
GENERAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, other agencies, and the general public.
  • Participate in college committees when requested.
  • Maintain proficiency by attending training and meetings, reading materials, and meeting with others in areas of responsibility, which may require travel.
  • Maintain student confidentiality, data integrity, and comply with all related college, state, and federal standards, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
:
Bachelor's Degree in education, psychology, social work, sociology, business, public administration, or related field AND three years' relevant experience, OR any equivalent combination of education and experience which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties as described.
Additional requirements:
  • Experience working in higher education or other settings with diverse and underserved populations, including out-of-school youth.
  • Great interpersonal skills including successful collaboration, customer service, public speaking, event management and program development skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to disseminate complex information to small and large groups effectively.
  • Strong experience with word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, internet, and e-mail applications.
Ability to exemplify traits that reflect the College's culture, including integrity, a customer service orientation, cultural competency, trustworthiness, flexibility and a willingness to change.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to communicate effectively with English language learners.
  • Bi-lingual English and Spanish
  • Knowledge of FERPA requirements.
  • Experience working with GED students of all ages and diverse backgrounds including out-of-school youth and first-generation college students.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OR LICENSES
:
Driver's license valid in the State of Oregon to perform the essential functions of the position and must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check.
