Summary:
As a Water/Wastewater Engineering Program Manager for the City of Lawrence you will serve as a vital member of the Municipal Services and Operations (MSO) Department. You will perform professional level engineering duties ranging from routine to very complex in nature associated with water/wastewater treatment process, environmental, pollution control, water rights, source water protection, planning, design, optimization and associated equipment and technologies. Plans, coordinates, and directs treatment processes of the City's water and wastewater treatment systems through technical review of data and models. Coordinates assigned water/wastewater treatment, environmental, and pollution control activities with other divisions and operations to ensure reliability, sustainability, and optimization.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply a thorough knowledge of current principles and practices of engineering as related to the variety of aspects affecting water/wastewater treatment processes, environmental, pollution control and the organization.
  • Design and participate in the development of highly complex plans and specification by reviewing, approving final documents, and conducting analysis.
  • Quality control and review for City’s water and wastewater process performance, including but not limited design and plan review, specification review, equipment review, data review, schedule coordination review, equipment startup and equipment/process training.
  • Provides a leadership role, working to achieve the City and department’s mission and organizational values, promoting teamwork and inclusion, emphasizing safety and training, and demonstrating a dedication to service.
  • Assists with technical issues associated with potable water production forecasting and future demand, water rights and authorizations, water contracts, conservation, source water protection, and residual management.
  • Exercises independent judgement, initiative, and professional skills and knowledge relating to reviewing and optimizing water/wastewater treatment processes.
  • In concert with other management staff, develops and implements goals, objectives, policies and priorities for facilities and programs, including technological advancement, regulatory compliance, opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures, and record keeping and trending.
  • Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers; assists contractors and vendors with City policies, procedures, and general problems that may come up in regard to a project or initiative; serves as liaison with all contacts as applicable.

Qualifications:Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education

Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field from an accredited college or university.

Experience

Six years of increasingly responsible experience in relevant areas of engineering.

Required Licenses

Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Kansas or ability to obtain it within six months. Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid Driver’s license.
