Summary:
This position performs various technical, operational, educational, and administrative tasks related to the environmental programs within the Municipal Services and Operations (MSO) Department. Primary responsibilities consist of implementation activities for the City’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit, including sampling, environmental audits, inspections, investigations, education, and outreach. This position assists in maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations through compliance assistance and enforcement of the City Code. The position also assists with reviewing and revising regulatory program documents including Emergency Response Plans, Spill Response Plans, and inspection procedures. The incumbent will be involved with the development and implementation of City goals, objectives, policies, and priorities related to MSO Environmental and Regulatory Oversight programs, including assisting with waste diversion programs such as household hazardous waste and compost operations.
Qualifications:High School Diploma/GED with two years of university, community college, business school, trade or technical school coursework required, with coursework in environmental sciences, Natural/physical sciences, biology, chemistry, public relations or administration, or a related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred. 24-hour HHW operator's certificate will be required within 6 months of the date of hire. Knowledge or work experience of regulations of hazardous waste management and fluency in MS Office applications such as Excel data sheets are required. Must have a valid driver’s license, currently in possession of, or the ability to obtain. The successful candidate will be required to pass a background check and post-offer City physical and drug screen.
