Collection Systems Operator – Water Resource Protection

The City of South Portland is currently seeking candidates to fill three (3) entry level full time Collection Systems Operator positions to join our Water Resource Protection team.

Position Summary: No experience needed for this entry level position. We will train the right individual to perform a variety of skilled, technical, and operational work in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of the South Portland municipal wastewater collection and stormwater drainage systems.

Supervision Received/ Exercised: Under the general guidance and direction of the Collection Systems Supervisor and Foreman

Education: High School graduate or equivalent required.

Experience: Class B driving experience/ license is always welcome but not necessary. We will assist you in obtaining both a Class B commercial driver’s license with tank endorsement and Grade I Collection Systems Operator Certificate within a 24 month period and a Class A commercial driver’s license within 36 months of hire.

The candidate must be flexible to be involved in a scheduled on-call rotation and be able to effectively respond to emergency conditions on evenings, weekends and some holidays.

Starting salary range: is currently $21.74 - $24.77 per hour ($45,219.20 - $51,521.60 annually, depending on experience and already holding a commercial Driver License. The position is eligible for annual step increases, and possible annual cost of living increases as approved by the City Council.
