Job Description

JOB TITLE: OUTREACH PROGRAM ASSISTANT

DEPARTMENT: COUNCIL ON AGING 

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: FULL-TIME, NON-EXEMPT

UNION/NON-UNION: NON-UNION

The Outreach Program Assistant is responsible for creative planning, program development, organization and implementation of new and existing programs for the Senior Center in collaboration with the Director. To provide support, feedback and communication to existing programs in the Center. Provide outreach support both in the Center and in the Community through information and referral around insurance, information, legal services, available home services and other pertinent information to elders.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for organization and implementation of Senior Center Programs. Is responsible for supervision of building, and being available to handle emergencies within the building and the general public.
  • Planning programs in advance, includes set up, making sure that programs run on time and filling in the gaps with other programs. Checking with program leaders for problems and working with the leaders to make sure classes are full and operational.
  • Assists with grants related to new programming and is responsible for direct contact with program participants.
  • Responsible for work within the community and works as liaison with other agencies. Must have good communication skills as well as excellent writing skills. 
  • Responsible for writing the newsletter on a monthly basis as well as for publicity and posters. 
  • Responsible for recruitment of new members to the Center.
  • Must be willing to train under the SHINE Program for informational knowledge. Must be willing to visit elders in their homes and provide elders with options of care. Referral sources may be either family, friends, discharge planner or other service agencies.
  • To establish contact with elders and to maintain a file on elders and to inform elder of possible options available.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associates Degree in Human Service field or related field is preferred.
  • Three-five years’ experience relevant experience and/or training.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Requires strong communication skills to work effectively with a diverse population.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This is an office-based job in a dynamic municipal building. While performing the duties of the Program Assistant, the incumbent is required to: interact and communicate frequently with the public, government officials, other staff members and boards, and/or third parties transacting business with the City and Senior Center.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Operates standard office equipment including computers and keyboards, at efficient speed; and move throughout the municipal building which may include flights of stairs. Lifts/moves objects weighing up to 10-20 pounds.

HOURS

Full-time: 37.5 hours per week

SALARY

Starting Rate $21.45 - $22.75 Per Hour

Annual Increases up to $27.98 Per Hour
