 **This Engineering Intern opportunity is for full -time students enrolled in an accredited college or university with a declared major in an engineering field of study. At the time of appointment, students must have completed sophomore year of college or have an equivalent completion of credit hours. **

Under direct supervision, performs entry-level engineering work through an internship opportunity within the Engineering Department.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Works closely with engineering staff to assist with research, design, and review work on projects such as streets, storm water, sanitary sewer, and other public works construction projects.
• Performs entry level technical research and data gathering for engineers on public works construction and civil engineering projects.
• Accompanies engineers to construction or development sites for inspection or projects reviews.
• Attends meetings with developers, engineers, and other technical staff regarding new or on-going engineering and development projects.
• Prepares reports for review and comment.
• Supports the relationship between the City and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; promotes the City goals and priorities, vision, values and the “Yuma Way”, and complies with all City policies and procedures.
• Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines 
High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required. Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited college or university with a declared major in an engineering field of study. Must have completed sophomore year of college, or have an equivalent completion of credit hours.

Knowledge of: 

• Basic engineering principles and concepts related to design and construction.
• Basic software programs for drafting, word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
• Rules of ethics applicable to professional engineering practices.

Skill in:

• Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
• Creating accurate reports for presentation or management review.
• Monitoring and prioritizing assigned projects.
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A valid Arizona State Driver's License is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard office environment, and at construction work sites. May be required to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects; may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous equipment.
