City of Yucaipa is Hiring a S.T.A.R.S. (Science, Technology, Art, Recreation for Success) Site Supervisor Near Yucaipa, CA

Under the direction of the Community Services Specialist, the S.T.A.R.S. Site Supervisor is responsible for the overall supervision of the City’s S.T.A.R.S. After School Program on local school campuses. This position will oversee the site's administrative functions and the day-to-day program operations, implement program’s policies and procedures, and foster a positive environment for all, including supervising program staff and students. The work schedule is typically between 10:45AM – 6:15PM (varies on program needs), Monday through Friday, during the academic year. The position may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and academic breaks for trainings and other duties as assigned. $17.50 per hour, maximum of 950 hours per fiscal year. The typical duties of this position include:
  • Preparing required materials and supplies for scheduled educational enrichment activities; 
  • Supervising up to 20 students in a group setting and lead up to 5 on-site part-time staff;
  • Recommend and/or assist in the implementation of goals and objectives;
  • Maintaining a clean and orderly site;
  • Completing the necessary paperwork for the daily administration of the program;
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, the public and school district personnel;
  • Dealing with challenging situations in an appropriate, effective, and efficient manner;
  • Providing exceptional customer service to students, families, school personnel, and the general public; and
  • Serving as a role model and leader to students.
Performance of assigned duties and responsibilities may include prolonged standing, sitting, walking on level or unleveled surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, pushing, pulling, carrying, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. Incumbents may be required to lift, carry and/or push objects weighing 25 pounds or more. 
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Possess a valid California Driver’s License.
  • Minimum one year experience in after-school/childcare programming and/or have completed at least three college courses in child development or a related field.
  • Possess or obtain a First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 6 months of employment;
  • Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities:
    1. Skills and methods used in controlling and motivating students, psychology in the care and handling of students, basic arithmetic calculations, operation of standard office equipment, use of English grammar, punctuation and spelling;
    2. Knowledge of child development, instructional processes;
    3. Abilities to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, learn simple methods and procedures to be followed in an instructional situation, maintain confidentiality of student records, meet schedules and deadlines, read, and write English, rapidly learn methods and materials used in a variety of instructional situations; sit for extended periods of time;
    4. Significant physical abilities include reaching/handling, talking/hearing, near and far visual acuity.
  • Testing Required: TB test clearance, criminal justice fingerprint clearance, and drug test clearance.
