Performs manual work assisting with the general maintenance of trees in parks and city properties, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the close supervision of the Urban Forester and Tree Trimmer.
Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED and minimal experience in arboriculture, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: General knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, practices, and procedures; general knowledge of related industry organization, and departmental legal guides, recommendations, best practices, ordinances, and laws; some knowledge of the materials, equipment, tools and techniques of urban forestry; ability to acquire a knowledge within a reasonable time period of the methods and techniques of a standard trade; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to acquire skill in the use of tools and equipment of a standard trade; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Physical Requirements: This work requires the regular exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and frequent exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions, frequently requires stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and occasionally requires sitting, speaking or hearing, climbing or balancing and tasting or smelling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm's length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts and exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to vibration; work is generally in a very loud noise location (e.g. wood chipper, chainsaw).
