Under regular supervision, performs difficult professional and administrative work upon assignment from the Field Operations Director. Position is responsible for Public Education and Outreach and Public Involvement program components of the city’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) stormwater permit.

Position is responsible for the development of educational programming that targets various segments of the population. Gives presentations to various groups such as schools, HOA’s, and special interest groups. Involved with the management and implementation of various events such as Earth Day, Big Sweep and Creek Week. Develops reports and keeps information on programming and events for annual reporting and audit purposes. 

The position creates partnerships with other agencies and city departments, including but not limited to, surrounding municipalities, Cooperative Extension, Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful and the Piedmont Triad Council of Governments.

Ability to work with staff, committee members, and the citizens of Winston-Salem; working knowledge of timelines and production schedules; excellent written and oral communication skills; strong contract and sponsorship negotiation skills; knowledge of research methods including data collection and analysis; GIS, knowledge of desktop publishing and other computer skills. Job requires some weekend and evening work hours.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, communications, environmental science or a closely related field.
