Duties and Responsiblities
You must be a certified Police Officer to be considered for this position
* Protect personnel and property in a professional manner;
* Meet and deal tactfully and politely with general public and visitors;
* Effectively and efficiently screen and process visitors;
* Identify, report, delay or detain persons who violate rules and regulations;
* Conduct internal and external roving foot patrols;
* Detect and respond to alarms and emergencies;
* Secure entrances and exits during emergencies;
* Communicate and remain accessible via two-way radio or company issued cellular phone;
* Observe and report all offenses/incidents;
* Complete all reports and paperwork as required;
* Provide first aid, CPR, and assist during emergencies as necessary;
* Must be able to wear protective body armor as a part of the duty uniform;
* Understand and comply with all departmental policies, procedures and General Orders;
* Maintain mandated training requirements in accordance with company guidance;
* Maintain physical fitness, agility requirements, and weapons qualifications;
* Ensure safety requirements compliance and safe work practices;
* Assist with autonomous traffic enforcement review and duties;
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
* Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
* Certified Police Officer by the Commonwealth of Virginia
* Valid Driver's license
Physical Skills: Ability to pass an annual physical examination and physical ability assessment
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Thorough knowledge of the rules and regulations of the police department. Thorough knowledge of modern police methods and procedures. General knowledge of the geography of the City. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to assign, instruct, and review the work of subordinates. Ability to deal firmly and tactfully with other employees and the public. Skills to physically perform the duties
Required Physical Activities:Climbing, flexibility, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, walking, running,jumping, crawling, lifting people, and pushing vehicles.
Vision Requirements: 20-40 uncorrected and no proven symptoms of being color blind
EQUIPMENT ESSENTIAL TO DO THE JOB: Police vehicle, handgun and shotgun, handcuffs, baton/kubaton, police radios, chemical spray and general knowledge of the equipment and its use according to safety rules. Other equipment used on the job consists of radar units, measuring tape, surveillance equipment, camera, computer, alco sensors, and breathalyzers.
