City of Whitewater is Hiring a Youth Sports Official - Baseball/Softball Near Park, WI

JOB SUMMARY

Youth Sports Official Baseball/Softball will focus on officiating youth baseball and softball for our parks and recreation youth leagues during weekday nights as well as opportunities for weekend tournaments at Treyton’s Field of Dreams.

Salary as follows:
$35/game for Local Parks & Recreation Games
$70/game for Tournament Umpires

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary.

  • all on field decisions and rule interpretations, 
  • maintaining a safe playing environment, 
  • explaining calls to participants,
  • completing required paperwork for softball and baseball games.

Education and/or Experience

  • Current High School students age 16 years and older. College students and retirees encouraged to apply.
  • Experience preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of baseball and softball rules.
  • WIAA Certification preferred.

Language Skills

  • Ability to analyze data and information using established criteria, in order to determine consequences and to identify and select alternatives. 
  • Ability to compare, count, differentiate, measure, copy, record and transcribe data and information. 
  • Ability to classify, compute, tabulate, and categorize data.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with participants, City personnel, Department personnel and City residents.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to calculate percentages, fractions, decimals, volumes, ratios, present values, and spatial relationships.
  • Ability to interpret basic descriptive statistical reports.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory and/or judgmental criteria.
Other Qualifications
  • Prior experience working with children, adults, and families.
  • Ability to effectively meet and deal with the public.
  • Ability to work effectively in cooperation with fellow employees.

  • The employee must exert moderate physical effort in to cover the playing field. May require kneeling, stooping and or moving up to 50 pounds.

  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate, but noise can increase due to activities.

  • The Youth Sports Official is supervised by the Athletic Program Coordinator.
  • The Youth Sports Official works independently and must be able to manage participants as well as onlookers.
