In pursuit of this vision, we are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Environmental Services and Sustainability Manager to lead our efforts in environmental stewardship, sustainable development, and resilient infrastructure.Role Overview:As the Environmental Services and Sustainability Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of West Sacramento by developing and implementing innovative strategies to enhance environmental quality, promote sustainable practices, and mitigate the impacts of climate change. You will manage a team of dedicated professionals working on refuse/recycling/organics, water conservation, and stormwater protection programs. Reporting to the Director of Community Development, you will collaborate closely with City departments, community stakeholders, and regional partners to achieve our sustainability goals.
DEFINITION: The Environmental Services Manager organizes and supervises staff and activities associated with the Environmental Services and Sustainability Division and City environmental, stormwater quality management and recycling programs and permits. The Environmental Services Manager is an at-will position that is appointed by and sits at the pleasure of the City Manager.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: Receives general supervision from the Director of Community Development or designee. Exercises direct supervision over assigned staff. Coordinates and monitors the work of outside contractors, vendors, and consultants.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS: This is a single, management level position responsible for managing the programs and activities of the Environmental Services and Sustainability Division located in the Community Development Department. The incumbent is responsible and accountable for accomplishing department/division goals, and for furthering City goals and objectives within general policy guidelines.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge and skill. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be:
Education: A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in physical, life or environmental science or planning, or closely related field.
Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience performing duties of an environmental regulatory nature in the private or public sector, including two (2) years in a supervisory capacity. Experience managing environmental programs in a municipal organization is highly desirable.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES: A valid California driver's license.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work in an office, field, and laboratory environment; exposure to chemicals; sustain posture in a standing, walking, or seated position for prolonged periods of time; travel to attend a variety of meetings. May be required to attend off-hour meetings and council meetings.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Mobility to work in a standard office or field environment, use standard office equipment and attend off-site meetings; operate a motor vehicle on surface streets with occasional exposure to weather conditions, construction and traffic hazards; mobility to traverse uneven terrain, periodically standing, stooping, bending, climbing and kneeling to perform fieldwork; sit at desk for long periods of time; lift light to moderately heavy weights; vision to read handwritten and printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and by telephone; manual dexterity to operate small equipment, tools and standard office equipment and supplies, and to manipulate both single sheets of paper and large document holders (binders, manuals, etc.).
ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS: Employees generally work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may also work in a field and laboratory environment and may be exposed to chemicals and inclement weather conditions. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing department guidelines, policies, and procedures.
