JOB
DEFINITION: Under general supervision, performs various semi-skilled maintenance and unskilled labor work related to City of Waxahachie streets, right-of-way, or other related areas. Performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility. Performs other duties as assigned. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Employees within this class are distinguished from the Maintenance Worker by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, with no supervisory responsibility. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction, assistance or supervision as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The duties listed below represent the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them if the work is related or a logical assignment to this class. Participate in the repair and maintenance within city right-of-way, including operating various equipment in the completion of assigned tasks. Repair or replace concrete and asphalt pavement in the streets, sidewalks, and other pavement within the street right-of-way. Under direction of the Street Superintendent and/or Street Supervisor, this position may assist with some leadership assignments over the Maintenance Worker I crews. Perform various tasks related to the maintenance and repair of city streets including mow right-of-way, fix pot-holes, trim trees, clean ditches, and cleaning various creeks; Repair and replace missing signs; order sign materials; fabricate and design signs for usage in the city. Operate various light equipment including mowers, tiller, pickup truck, chain saw and other equipment as needed. Maintain and make minor repair to assigned vehicles, tools and equipment; report major repair needs. Ensure traffic control for work performed to safeguard safety of crew and citizens. Assist other departments during special events with set-up, cleaning and traffic control. Provide labor for clean-up and demolition of condemned buildings. Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.Performs other duties as assigned. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Knowledge of: Operations, services and activities of a maintenance program.Methods and techniques of maintenance equipment operation.Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations.Basic principles and procedures of record keeping.Operations, services and activities of the city.English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.Operational characteristics of various maintenance equipment and tools.Occupational hazards and standard safety practices. Ability to: Operate a variety of maintenance equipment in a safe and effective manner.Perform heavy manual labor.Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, laws, and regulations.Understand and follow oral and written instructions.Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Work Environment: Field environment, exposure to inclement weather conditions; noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases; potentially hazardous equipment.
