Summary

Are you looking for a summer job? We would love to have you join the City of Wasilla ALPAR (Alaska Youth Litter Patrol) Crew for the summer 2024 season! The start date for this season is June 10, 2024.

As an ALPAR Supervisor, you will have a role in supervising and directing teams of the Alaska Youth Litter Patrol program. You will utilize safety equipment to pick up trash in the City of Wasilla parks and surrounding areas to help keep them litter-free. Every day, you will work a 7 am to 3:30 pm shift with a half hour break.

Since the work is done outside, you will be expected to work in various weather conditions such as rain or heat. Safety vests and other tools will be provided to ensure you can complete the job successfully.

You will succeed in this role if you work well with guiding others, have a strong work ethic, and are punctual. If that sounds like you, we encourage you to apply!

  • This is a non-exempt, temporary, part-time position without benefits.

Job Duties

The responsibilities listed below are illustrative of the various types of duties that may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Responsible for direct supervision of assigned youth litter teams ensuring safety and modeling productive behavior. Redirect and motivate if needed.
  • Demonstrate safety features of equipment; distribute safety equipment including vests, eye protections, gloves, trash grabbers and other equipment. Ensure youth comply with safety procedures.
  • Maintain records of activities and results, including youth timesheets.
  • Coordinate patrol sites with youth and/or guardian; encourage recycling efforts.
  • Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of youth motivation techniques.
  • Ability to utilize communication tools, such as vehicle radio.
  • Ability to operate city-owned vehicles.
  • Skilled in record keeping for grant funding requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have valid State of Alaska Driver’s License at time of hire.
  • Must provide a current (dated within 30 days of request) driving record from the state in which driver's license is held upon request.
