CITY OF VISTA is Hiring a Waterpark Facility Specialist Near Vista, CA

Waterpark Facility Specialist (V23): $5,026.58 - $6,109.76 Monthly
Under general supervision, performs senior-level trade tasks in the construction, alteration, maintenance and repair of the City waterpark buildings, facilities and equipment; and performs related duties as assigned.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This is an advanced-level class in the Facilities Maintenance series. This class differs from lower-level classes given the broader knowledge of occupational trades, the complexity of assigned projects, knowledge of job planning and material usage, cost estimating practices, independence of action that is exercised, and the ability to perform the most skilled tasks.
  • Conducts periodic inspections of waterpark facilities and assesses repairs needed; provides labor and material cost estimates for review by the Waterpark Manager, including necessary tasks and scope of repairs.
  • Cleans and maintains pools and waterplay areas and inspects chemical levels to assure conformance with State and County requirements; cleans drains and removes obstructions from water and sewage systems.
  • Reads and interprets diagrams, schematics, and drawings; creates and reviews material lists required for different jobs that are performed by City staff or contractors.
  • Maintains, diagnoses, repairs, and installs electrical components, systems and power stations; determines correct wiring, power panels, breakers, and conduits that are needed to support circuitry; trouble-shoots, repairs, and installs contactors, transformers, capacitors, ballasts, clocks, lighting fixtures, and other electrical elements.
  • Maintains, diagnoses, repairs, and installs pool and water equipment, including mechanical pumping and electrical systems, and related components such as economizers, compressors, transformers, valves, metering equipment, wiring, capacitors, relays, and fuses as well as mechanical components such as pumps, bearings, shaft alignments, amp draws, piping, and metering equipment.
  • Operates refrigerant recovery machines; diagnoses, repairs, and installs ice machines and drinking fountains.
  • Diagnoses, repairs, maintains, and installs plumbing fixtures and components such as domestic line controls, lavatory controls, water heaters, and commode fixtures.
  • Diagnoses, repairs, maintains, and installs carpentry, and completes associated tasks, such as rough framing, walls, windows, window frames, doors, door frames, drywall, and drywall tapings, and finish carpentry, such as molding, door locks, cabinets, hinges, and related components.
  • Prepares, mixes, and paints walls, ceilings, and other surfaces; performs masonry work as needed, including plastering, tile, cement, brick, and finishing work, and roof repairs.
  • Provides technical guidance to seasonal maintenance workers and performs the most difficult tasks.
  • Coordinates and assists contractors with on-site repairs and installations, in accordance with work specifications, safety standards, and City procedures.
  • Works with manager to determine mechanical specifications for new attractions and upgrades; purchases depleted stock of materials and orders pool supplies; organizes, transfers, and maintains materials and equipment.
  • Operates a variety of motorized vehicles and performs utility duties such as loading, hauling, and unloading of materials and supplies.
  • Completes daily work logs.
  • Responds to emergency call-out work and assists other departments as needed.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Electrical principles and components, and proper loads and distribution given uses.

  • Mechanical, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and painting methods and practices.

  • Pool maintenance practices and appropriate chemical uses. 

  • OSHA and County health and safety standards related to waterpark facilities.

  • Basic principles and practices of refrigeration and refrigerant gasses and their uses.

  • Work planning methods and safety practices and proper uses of equipment.

  • Welding and metal fabrication techniques. 

  • Basic mathematical principles. 

Waterpark Facility Specialist

ABILITY TO:

  • Plan, prioritize, and complete work tasks and guide and assist with tasks being performed by other City employees and contractors, and meet deadlines.

  • Operate a variety of motorized vehicles and equipment in a safe and effective manner and maintain appropriate pool chemical balances.

  • Perform a variety of pool maintenance, installation, and repair functions as well as electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, and painting functions. 

  • Read and interpret sketches, schematics, blueprints and electrical wiring diagrams. 

  • Work independently in the absence of supervision.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contractors, the general public and those encountered in the course of the work.

QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above would be:

Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent and four years of advanced maintenance experience in the general building and facilities maintenance trades; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Additional training and vocational certification in one or more of the major Building Trades, and associated maintenance services is highly desirable, such as pool and chemical maintenance, building, electrical, carpentry, and plumbing. A Certified Pool Operator designation is highly desirable.

A valid Class C California driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the City’s Vehicle Insurance Policy. May work on-call or be expected to respond to emergency situations.

Must be available to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays and split shifts, dependent upon facility needs. Must be fully available from April through October given seasonal usage demands.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. Employees are required to frequently stand and walk in work areas and occasionally sit while completing records and reports, and talk and hear. Employees are expected to stoop, squat, crawl, and work within confined physical spaces. Employees may climb stairs, ladders, or small stools, and lift and carry parts, supplies, and equipment, typically weighing less than 50 pounds.
 
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee works indoors and outdoors in accessing and performing maintenance and repair functions involving on City buildings, facilities, and equipment. The employee is continuously exposed to outside weather conditions, extremely hot and cold surfaces and work areas, moisture, wetness, dust, oils, greases, fumes, and mechanical and electrical hazards. The employee works with various cleaning agents. The noise level is loud given play areas noises, pump operations, and when the employee is operating power tools and equipment.
 
This position requires entry into confined spaces observing State mandated regulations governing confined space entry procedures.
